    G12 used in VWs

Anyone know the details about this coolant?

    The purpose of silicates?

SHOZ-you should use what was originally spec'd for your engine.

    Mixing G12(+) and BASF G30

I just topped off my wife's Jetta and wondered why whoever came up with G12 couldn't spec a color other than pink for it? This stuff is pretty expensive from VW too.....I paid $20 for a 3 liter bottle.

    mix % of water-coolant?

50/50. You don't even have to measure it out because Peak and Prestone make a pre-dilluted 50/50 antifreeze. I personally use the Prestone version.

    mobil 1 filters. .......... grrrrrrrrrrrr

I personally would have not used it as soon as I felt/saw the filter not spinning on right.

VW OEM oil filters or aftermarket

First thing to do would be to ditch Jiffy Lube. If you must have someone change the oil for you, take it to a VW dealer or a local mechanic. You can use the VW filter-it's very high quality. I have been using a Purolator Premium Plus on my wife's 04 VW Jetta, but will be switching to a OEM VW...

    the oil filter magnets !!!

The Filter Mag brand magnets are pretty pricy for what they are. They do work because cutaway pictures of filters that used them don't lie. I went with a magnetic drain plug on all of my oil pans instead because it was easier on the wallet.

    DEXRON®-VI or MOBIL 1 Synthetic / GM 4L60E

If you are still under warranty, use the factory spec Dexron.

anybody change their power steering fluid or run a filter?

I change all of my vehicle's power steering fluid yearly. I just suck out the old fluid with a turkey baster and replace it with fresh fluid. After a week, I repeat the process and call it good until the following year. Same for the brake fluid.

    ATF for a 96 Chrysler T&C ?

As already mentioned, only use Chrysler spec trans fluids. In your case it's going to be either ATF+3 or ATF+4. The owner's manual and/or dipstick will tell you which one to use. Chrysler issued a TSB a year or so ago saying to go with ATF+4 if your trans originally used ATF+3. There were some...

    Jeeps 4.0 OIL

Gary, try this to erase the adaptive memory of the PCM. 1. Disconnect the positive battery cable and touch it to ground for 30 seconds. 2. Hook the cable back up. 3. Turn the key to on. Do not start. 4. Turn the headlights on. Turn the headlights off. 5. Turn the key off. You've now...

15W50 in single digits is foolish.

    Jeeps 4.0 OIL

For those that care, we had our coldest overnight temp yet, 0F, and that's without the windchill factored in. This morning, the Jeep (97 4.0 TJ) made all kinds of racket for about 3 seconds with a 10W30, Mobil 5000 and a Purolator Premium Plus filter. Up till today it has been quiet on startup...

What factor hits oil life expectancy the hardest?

Short trips where the oil never gets up to temp and/or infrequent use of the vehicle. Very hard engine usage where the engine is seeing high rpms for sustained periods and/or the oil temps hit around 300F or higher would also be another factor, but more on the extreme side for the average folks...

    Jeeps 4.0 OIL

Seeing as you are from south Florida, you can stick with the 15W40 year round. If you'd like, you can drop down to a 10W40 in the "winter", but I don't think it's really necessary. Enjoy that weather....it's 15 and dropping where I'm at. As for a 15W40 down to single digits, I'd err on the side...

How often are you using fuel injector cleaner?

Let's see how we compare to each other. Give a time interval and type of cleaner you are using. I'm using Techron cleaner and use it in my fuel injected engines every 2 years.

Appropriate Engine oil for C6, please advise...

The LS2 is just a slightly evolved LS1 with more cubes-nothing special per se once you get past the naming nomenclature. I'd stick with the Mobil 1-just go thicker, like say their 5W40 if the oil consumption bothers you. Keep in mind most all newer hi-po engines use low tension rings-they'll...
