QP, VW was still giving 2/24 service in 2001. How can who pays for the oil change make the oil last longer in the same engine & chassis set-up??? Oh well, I guess I will never understand.

Also, the maintenace manual for my 2001 Jetta said 5k OCI for 1.8T. No special letter. No TSB. (Add a $500 chain tensioner, too.)

Last weekend, MIL had oil changed in 160k mile Honda accord. Then lost the main and/or balance shaft seal. Pumped all oil onto highway. Drove to shop that did the oil change with oil light on...~20 miles with little to no oil in engine. Now, just a little rod bearing knock! At least that...

As little as 100 PSI will permeate skin. 35000 PSI will cut your finger off before you know it!

Consider this a flush and do a 5/30 change ASAP...no need to change the filter.

Do it with a full tank. 3 or 4 oz of oil in 15-25 gallons of gas is nothing to worry about. I do this all the time with my old CIS VWs, which are less sensitive to oil in gas. (Rumor is these old VWs can run on beer wiz! )

Thanks. I’ll look into the recall, but at this age/mileage I doubt the manf. will be any help. The seal backing out would explain the sudden failure/oil loss. I have never seen anything like it!
