Running 5W-50 in Ford engines instead of 5W-20 / 5W-30?

Though that might be true, Motorcraft produces excellent UOAs in my GT350R. I've not found a reason to switch to other oils that meet (or claim to exceed) the spec e.g. Lucas and Amsoil.

    Post your latest oil change

2016 Volvo XC90 with 76,5XX miles. As posted elsewhere, it started to consume oil a few K miles ago. I added a can of BG EPR, ran it for 20 minutes at 1200 RPM, the changed the oil and filter. In went Mobil 1 5W30 High Mileage and a Wix filter. Hopefully the oil consumption improves.

2016 Volvo XC90 is consuming oil

It’s official. I’ve run BG EPR in the engine for ~20 minutes and drained the oil. I know oil color doesn’t mean much, but boy was that oil black. I spilled a little on the white and gray epoxy floors and it was still pitch black. Maybe it doesn’t mean anything, but pouring in fresh, golden oil...

2016 Volvo XC90 is consuming oil

I’ve decided to give this a shot after reading a LOT about this stuff. Thanks for the recommendation. My plan is to use the BG EPR, then drain and replace the oil with Castrol EDGE High Mileage, or something else that y’all recommend.

Update: I’ve consumed about 1.8 quarts in the last 6000 miles. This is B.S.

2016 Volvo XC90 is consuming oil

Thanks for the advice, everyone. As suggested, I took a look at the PCV system. The PCV valve had a little bit of crud on it, but not much. The check valve works as designed. I cleaned it and put it back together. Volvo recommends either 0W30 or 5W30 per the manual. It also states: "Volvo oil...

2016 Volvo XC90 is consuming oil

Hey all, My wife drives a 2016 Volvo XC90 with 75K miles on the odometer. It has been dealer serviced with 10K OCI using 5W-30 (Castrol as I have been told, I have never confirmed). Many XC90 owners cite oil consumption after about ~65K. Sure enough, we're seeing ours consume about 3/5 of a...

Ha! Thanks for all the interest! I've had the GT350R since 7/1/2016. It's the only car I haven't gotten bored of after a year or two. Here's some pictures from Circuit of the Americas in Austin. I've also had it at Utah Motorsports Campus and MSR Houston.

Seeking recommendation: 0W-20 MS-6395 oil for 3.6L Jeep Wrangler

I appreciate all the direction! I've got my first two changes planned: I just picked 2 5QT jugs of Shell Rotella Gas Truck Full Synthetic Engine Oil 0W-20, 5 Quart for 2 x $21.57 at Walmart. I got a pair of Mopar 68191349AC oil filters shipped for $7.37 each. Accounting for the $10 rebate on...

Seeking recommendation: 0W-20 MS-6395 oil for 3.6L Jeep Wrangler

Hey folks, I've got a 2020 3.6L Jeep Rubicon on order and will begin the stockpiling of oil because that's what us folks do. Chrysler changed the recommend weight from 5W-20 to 0W-20 for its 3.6L Pentastar engines. 5W-20 MS-6395 oils seem cheaper and easier to come by than 0W-20 MS-6395 do. On...

I know that oil anecdotes are a dime a dozen... "runs smoother" after switching oils is a laughable cliche, and rightly so. But I swear on anything that there is a real, true, noticeable, auditory difference between 5W20 Pennzoil Platinum and 5W20 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my 2016 Wrangler...
