I received an Email on Mobil Super Synthetic

To tig1. I drive a Honda Accord. Fuel contamination is a (The only?) problem. I was alwaysd scared to go past 8K mi for this reason. So I went with a great oil that will easily take me to 8K and costs less. Although I noticed it went up recently.

I received an Email on Mobil Super Synthetic

Well to both the last posts. Give us some real information regarding your Synthetics. I will not go into the details, you both know what I am talking about. Are any of their oils true synthetics? As in synthesized oil? Or "As good as"?

I received an Email on Mobil Super Synthetic

Hi Bill, I was just sent the link, no more info. But spending a little more time looking at the link sent by Barlowc I see it says: "The product offers performance consistent with many synthetics in the market". Well, thanks Castrol...you prostituted the word synthetic so it has no meaning...

I received an Email on Mobil Super Synthetic

Thanks Barlowc. From the link you sent me: Mobil Super Synthetic is a full synthetic that uses synthetic-base oils. It outperforms our conventional and synthetic blend products. Huh??? Better than conventional and semi-syn. But not as good as a (Debatable) real synthetic? Is this just a...

    Total Lubricants for auto shop??

Agreed, very good, and their synthetics are real synthetics, not "Synthetics". I was helping a friend of mine try to market, Elf/Total to European car dealers in the US. Right after VW and Audi had all the sludge problems iwith the 1.8T. It fell on deaf ears, the dealers just didn't get it. Now...

    Ending M1 OCI

Mokanic, thanks for the comments. One of our cars (My elderly Mom's) is a 94 albeit with only 60K miles, that has never used a drop of oil. Neither did her previous two Accords. Mine, as I mentioned earlier in the thread was a repo that showed signs of poor or no maintenance, this being the...

    Great Customer servive from Auto-RX

I sent Auto-RX a message today (Sunday), concerned that I had used too much product for my oil capacity (I used 12 oz for 5 Qts instead of 10). To my shock and amazement I received a response within minutes, and on a Sunday no less! Answer: It's OK. Thanks Frank!

    Ending M1 OCI

Well, after the Auto-RX treatment with dino I plan to go with Amsoil 0W-20 instead of the M1 5W-30 I have been using (Literally using!), and I'll see if I get less consumption than with M1. Keep in mind I bought the car very cheap (Repo) at 22K miles, and it did not look as if it had been well...

    Ending M1 OCI

Eric, thanks for the input. I already have 4 bottles of Auto-RX in the garage so I'm going to try them on the SC400 for the startup smoke, and my 05 accord 4cyl to see if I can lower th oil consumption. I know 1 Qt every 3K is not terrible, but I think its too much for an 05 with less than 30k...

    Ending M1 OCI

BennyL, I don't think there are many similarities between the SC400 heads (Or motors) and the Sienna, and I have never heard they sludge up. In my wife's 92 SC400 we run dino with 3-5K intervals. It uses abot a quart in 5K, mosttly at startup after sitting a couple of days. I will be following...

    Question About Start-Up Wear

Very good point... By the same token, would there be any advantage to running an electric oil heater yearround to keep the oil warmer during the first start of the day?

    Acura 2003 Type S-- 5 w 20 in summer?

Whoaa! I thought engines ran at the same operating temp in winter and summer, so the only consideration was the 5W for cold starts. What difference would the -20 or -30 make whether it is winter or summer? Second, the referenced Synlube "Anti 5W20" article does not seem to address the source of...

Thanks for the advise. I must admit I had not considered Auto RX. I need to do a search to find out more about it...

    Oil burning on startup

One of our cars is a 1992 lexus SC400 (4.0 V8)with 180K miles that sometimes puts out a puff of smoke on startup. The longer it sits the worse it is. If it is run daily it is not even noticeable, and oil consumption is negligible. I am assuming the oil is leaking past the valve seals. Would...

over 900,000 miles on 99 chev van

Kind of off topic but what the hey. When I was growing up in Argentina they finally passed a law to get the old Mercedes diesel taxis off the road (170D?). The taxi drivers bought local cars (Like the SIAM di Tella) and put the old Mercedes diesel engines in them. LOL. Well over 1MMK Km!

    Amsoil 0w-20

Very funny Johnny! I was trying to sell ELF Oil synthetic a few years ago and you would not have believed some of the responses... Me: Have you heard of ELF? Answer: yes, my children love the movie about bla, bla elves. This was from the service manager at a VW dealership right in the midst of...

    Amsoil 0w-20

Buster is getting a following, I went with the same oil for the same reason... I've still got it in the garage because I still have perfectly good M1 in the sump of my Honda, but I'm getting real itchy to switch.
