Castrol Edge Extended Performance 0W-20 25k

What has you thinking that it is? I am genuinely intrigued. Trying to decide which oil to go with on my wife's '24 Mazda CX-5 after the second free dealer oil change.

    PlanetSafe Lubricants products

Well, of course. However, that's the reason that this subforum exists I suppose. SDS doesn't give anything informative about what's in it. Not that I can glean, anyway. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0816/4775/files/PlanetSafe-OT-SDS-3-24-2023.pdf?v=1679681711

    PlanetSafe Lubricants products

Yea, I saw that. Makes it tempting. Some of the people in the reviews section of the oil and gear additive have stated that the product stopped their cam phaser rattling on start up, and that especially was intriguing. I don't think their products are too highly priced either.

    PlanetSafe Lubricants products

I was watching a YouTube channel that I subscribe to 'Sweet Project Cars' and the guy behind the channel had a video in it where he used one of the PlanetSafe products on wiper blades. After perusing the PS webpage, I found that they make an oil and gear additive that when used with engine oil...

    Two HPL EC30 tests

I ran EC30 for two 5K mile intervals with QSFS and PP 5W20 over last fall into the end of December. I did not cut open the first filter, but I my dad got me an oil filter cutting tool for Christmas and I just got around to cutting open the second filter with it last weekend. It is a Purolator...

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Most people that have changed their oil at 5K miles and/or used synthetic don't usually need them. There are two, the other one is for the VTC actuator oil drain. If you are in there checking you may as well just replace them for as much work as they take to remove, they leak sooner or later...

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Don't waste your time just simply checking it - outright replace it.

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Anything more than 5-6 exposed teeth, it's operating on borrowed time. The springs in the tensioners can only do so much on startup as well, and they weaken with time. Not to be confused with what I wrote about the springs in the VTC actuator, mind you. If you do end up replacing the timing...

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Doesn't matter if you agree, they are common issues. Regarding 0W20, what then, would be doing these things?

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Tensioner gets the brunt of the VTC rotor vanes slapping back and forth because the springs for the lock pin get weak and shorten. Tensioner piston teeth grind down and chain tension drops. Low oil levels overheat the chain and high oil change intervals allow tiny debris in the holes for the...

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Ummmm, I don't think you realize, none of them are. They are all OEM Honda unless they are some aftermarket racing cams. It's pretty cut and dry. You buy a used camshaft that's lobes aren't wiped clean off and install it. Regarding the timing components, you need to replace the timing chain...

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Holy lobe wear!! That thing is wiped. You need to replace that camshaft. Ebay is a good source. And for the record, on the K-series engines the valvetrain gets quieter and the valves get tighter with time, not the other way around like you may think. Burned valves are a possibility if gone...

    K24 and 10k OCIs

I do, and I can help you get it fixed for far less time and money than the prescribed way Honda does it, message me.

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Nope, it plays into it but that's not why. I know WAY more about the VTC rattle than I ever cared to. I went way down that rabbit hole. Anyone seeing this can PM me and we can discuss all of that.

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Oh but nothing in this world is perfect. Rattling VTC actuators, failing timing chain tensioners, stretched timing chains, premature exhaust cam lobe wear, gunked up VTEC and VTC strainers, and stuck piston rings. Pretty much all caused by people doing 10K oil change intervals dictated by the...

    Mazda Filter

This is what I have been thinking about since the very first OEM filter I bought for my wife's CX-5. I am good with the OEM filters.

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Lucky you, you got one of the K24 engines with an aluminum intake manifold. I imagine you have VTC on both cams, is that correct?

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Huh??? I tried this before and at least the setup I have does not allow my smallest tube to get through the dipstick port past the valve cover. I became convinced it just wasn't possible on the K24.....please tell me more.

    K24 and 10k OCIs

I can only reference the fuel dilution of the L15 turbo engines - which may or may not have been corrected - but if you address the flaws of the K24, they will be my go-to Honda power plant.
