    Motul gearbox 80w90

It's GL5, supossedly compatible with GL4. Motul usually uses cooper protection additives in these like thiadazole and phosphorus multifunction. There is sulphur, but different versions on each oil. I did use 75w90 GL4/GL5, good oil in general not problems until exploding gearbox/DMF  but...

    75W-85 in place of 75W-90

Yes depend on case. Really any 75w90 works most time as 75w85 or even thick 75w80, if you new 75w85 is better quality or more stable it could be even better. In your case I'd consider 75w85.

    Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90

Yes but seems big change in chemistry, visible data is more like GL4 spec which is impossible, so new hidden additive package or P/S or Ester development. It needs more analysis.

5w40 Castrol Edge vs Shell Ultra Helix 5w40 in Australia

XOM and Shell are one of the few bosses in this matter. Most known companies buy to them all or partial product, so don't worry about XOM bases, they are innovating continuosly even back and forth to optimize costs/performance, simply check and compare.

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

These prices wow... really you are limited to Castrol, except if buy 20L of SHU 5w40 and price is interesting 228 vs 270, well not too much difference anyway but really oil chemistry difference, you should test SHU and get feelings, if not Castrol again hehe.

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

No, We are not talking about more or less stringent approvals, simply same approvals (post #40). Quality can't be compared due to it. It's one of basics and it's not clear for you. Yes fourth time, price/quality (post #6).

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

Exactly, minimum, because that quality can't be compared due to same approval. Again repeating obvious things. Again with X-Max, third time, price/quality when it's clearly cheaper, lets see how many times repeat it will be needed.

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

Before getting nervous or telling about what know or not someone, you should think about your reading errors (cheap/price/quality remember) and your wrong reasoning of a product that: - has similar or even lower quality than some competitors - sometimes has most of fake synthethic base oil -...

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

Interesting that there M1, Motul and Petronas are expensivier than Castrol... I won't say about Amsoil, Redline then... How about Castrol Edge Professional 0w40? It's not SP, but it's the good.

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

Castrol 0w has different chemistry depend on version and market, it's the thing, specially A3/B4 most are not true synth or even mid-synth. Semi-synth <> mid true synth oil, not full true synth base oil. MB229.5 and LL01 are even lower than semi-mid synth oil, there you have 5w30 and 5w40...

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

Because that I said very clearly "cheaper and same or better", because all of them are. About less fake obviously nop because it's impossible when product quality is similar and expensivier. Castrol 0w when not true synth or at least semi-synth (PAO) it's the more fake than most competitors...

    Edge 0W-40 or SHU 5W-40?

That Edge seems the fake synth edition. Good oil but nothing special if it's expensivier vs fake synth competitors. I'd use Shell HU 5w40 if cheaper. Ford spec apart, you have cheaper and same or better oils as M1 0w40 FS, Motul X-Max 0w40, Shell HU 0w40, Elf/Total 9000 0w40, Petronas 7000 0w40...

Lucas 85W-140 formulation change - anyone have specific info?

They don't know what to say because it's a marketing lie. It's safe, but not safe, but say GL4 +GL5, but now GL5 only. If you car needs GL4 only, then you are doing bad even if bottle says GL4 + GL5. 85w140? uhh

Mahindra Roxor: Same oil for Differential, Transfer Case and Manual Transmission?

Mahinda wants GL4 for manual/transfer, not GL5. There is not doubt. That GL5 could work or be compatible with GL4 is not the same as GL5 is equal to GL4. If you want use same oil for all parts then it's ok, if you want use right oil for each part according to manufacturer then it's not ok, oil...

    Dual api gl4/gl5 please help

Not wait. Any GL4 oil is ok for hypoid under low or moderate loads when GL5 is not required. If you check Mitsubishi specs for all these gearboxes R5/V5, transfers and diff you will see Mitsu asks GL4 for gearbox/transfer and GL5 for diffs, forget hypoid word, thing here is API difference. For...

    Dual api gl4/gl5 please help

Total is GL5 even if it says GL4 too, it has strong GL5 additive. Most GL4/GL5 won't damage manual gearbox at low-mid mileage, but it's not innocuous. If manual ask for GL4, then right option is GL4. You have good classic GL4 oils like Castrol Multivehicle 75w90 (Ford, Motorcraft), RedLine...

Most VW MT trans use 75w GL4, so if your new 2003 is so, new Valvoline Syncromesh will work perfect.
