How many people are running oil filters for multiple intervals?

Not me. The filter may still be good, but then there would be over 2 or even 3 quarts of dirty oil left in the engine. I want the full package changed out every time.

Does Quaker State contain more seal conditioners than Pennzoil?

I think Pennzoil is either trying to market their HM oil, or they decided for liability reasons to say their normal product line doesn't condition older seals.

Recommend oil for 2009 Forf Edge

Only 0w-20 if the winter is extremely cold (like -35° F or worse), that way cold start oil flow is better. 5w-20 will do for most conditions.

    HM oils

HM oils have a larger dose of seal conditioners. Other things that differentiate it is a tad more ZDDP, most may be on the thicker side of the specified weight, more detergent is definitely included and makes the oil act like a mild flush, and you may even see a good dose of moly. I think many...

    95 Lexus es 300 oil/filer recommendation?

Considering your mileage, Mobil 1 High Mileage oil with a Mobil 1 oil filter will do for 7500 miles or once a year. I would do a 5000 mile oil change with it first because it might clean up deposits left in the engine if it's always used conventional oil.

STOP changing your oil so often!

Unless you live here where it can get up to 115 degrees with dust flying all over, and do stop and go in it, any synthetic is changed out once a year or every 7500 miles tops ONLY with a good oil filter. I grab filters that can go 10k or 15k. You know what's best for you and I know what's best...

    Oreilly's Microgard 51394 C&P

Not into the inconsistent pleating with wide, uneven spaces on 1 side of the filter. Oil will flow through the wide pleats more because there is less resistance for flow, and that could tear it.

new Dodge Journey 2.4L...oil usage during break-in?

That is why. Also, cheap synthetic can last 7500 miles, so it's wasteful for break-in if you're gonna change it way sooner than that lol.

new Dodge Journey 2.4L...oil usage during break-in?

Oil consumption varies from engine to engine during break-in, so I'm not exactly sure how much it could consume. I would expect the same consumption as you mentioned with your Jeep. Change out the break-in oil at 1500 miles to drain out all the break-in metals, and then go 3500 miles with just...

Oil color question - yet another!

DGXR, I went in full limbo after reading your comment's last paragraph thinking it was a comment I made lol. I own a Tacoma and Corvette too and do the same oil change intervals.

Changed facroty fill and louder noise

I've noticed any fresh oil makes engines noisy for a bit. The piston slap and some valvetrain noise in my LS1 goes away about 500 miles after changing oil. It happened with Pennzoil Platinum, some Valvoline bulk oil that was put in it after replacing the timing chain, Mobil 1 HM, and Royal...

Change from 5w30 for colder months?

You'll be perfectly fine with a 5w-30 for barely below freezing. Switching to a 5w-20 from 5w-30 will NOT change cold weather viscosity for cold starts. Both those weights are still a 5w- oil, which means 5winter. The oil is a 5 weight when cold, and a 30 weight when warmed up due to polymers in...

The Color of Oil Tells Nothing

I go 7500 miles with synthetic and it leaves just a tinge of gold on the heads. The oil gets very dark, but it's still clear when seen on the dipstick. I'm sure the cause of this is just heat and a small amount of soot.

    Oil to cause LSPI

LSPI most likely happens from lugging a turbo direct injection engine. Common pinging is erradic combustion after the spark plug ignites fuel due to glowing hot carbon buildup. Other causes could be from running lean, incorrect spark timing, wrong heat range spark plugs, or overheating - which I...

Sometimes I think upper tier is overrated

Enjoying higher RPM like I do, I like me a good oil with more additives, and a filter that can handle 10,000 miles even though I only go 5000 to 7500 miles. Gotta go to Amazon to get my fancy Royal Purple HMX with Synerlec. I just believe the stuff on store shelves doesn'y suit my needs. It's...

    5W20 or 5W30

5w-20 is fine in the Hemi as long as you're not putting large loads on it all the time. If it's just a run-around vehicle or a highway cruiser, 5w-20 will protect the engine just fine and even give you better MPG if that matters to you. I put 5w-20 Royal Purple Synthetic in my mom's Grand...

    5.3L Lifters and Certain Oil

I'd go back to Rotella, but use 5w40 T6. Better flow for cold starts than 10w- or 15w-.

How Many of You Use High Mileage Oil?

I made a thread quite recently about HM oil asking if it could cause leaks if I stopped using it. With some advise from there, I made a decision to just keep using it. Both my engines, an LS1 and 5VZ, are over 15 years old with over 130k, and I believe Royal Purple HMX has contributed to keeping...
