What oil would you use for a high mileage engine?

Anything will work for those engines. My coworker has a Trailblazer 4.2 with almost 300,000 miles. It does have a sludge problem when he bought it, and still does, but the engine still runs and takes abuse from him. He straight piped it and added all kinds of stickers like it's an SS or...

Does ATF have to be in "Hot" zone of dipstick for best performance?

It might have to do with the angle of the vehicle, like on a steep grade. The fluid may not be at the right level in these situations. Another problem I had and forgot to mention was the transmission not downshifting gears when I was driving up a grade at full throttle. It stayed lugging at 2000...

Does ATF have to be in "Hot" zone of dipstick for best performance?

That sounds the same as the Chrysler dipstick. Thankfully, Jeep thought about the small things and put a bright yellow ATF dipstick in reach above the engine. I think it should be red though, but FCA insists on OSHA yellow for everything, even windshield washer fluid.

Does ATF have to be in "Hot" zone of dipstick for best performance?

Actually my shop has that Dorman dipstick with all the charts, and the Jeep has an EVIC that shows lots of gauges. Vehicle already has its own ATF dipstick though. I know I've seen other FCA vehicles that have an ATF tube with no dipstick and I had to use the Dorman. It works! I've used it on a...

Does ATF have to be in "Hot" zone of dipstick for best performance?

And yes I used ATF+4. Thanks for the reply. This transmission was also serviced at the Jeep dealer at 30k. Probably didn't add enough top off fluid or checked it wrong.

Does ATF have to be in "Hot" zone of dipstick for best performance?

2013 Grand Cherokee 4x4 with 65RFE auto transmission. 47,000 miles. Was a bit concerned lately with it shifting gears a little hard, and it also shifts into drive a bit hard when fluid is cool. I checked ATF level on level ground with engine running after a long drive in 100 degree weather, and...

1985 Toyota MR2 oil selection and UOA question

There are modern DOHC engines that use flat cam followers, like the Kia/Hyundai 2.4. It's those old pushrod engines with flat tappets that need ZDDP. Those things have a very aggressive cam profile and only 1 cam doing all the work. The 4A-GE is a high revving engine, but if you're just driving...

Oil change interval Rotella Gas Truck in Kia GDI used for delivery

Considering it's GDI with lots of stop and go, I'd change it every 5k, especially since your Kia is likely part of the major engine recall from those years. Take care of it as best as possible and that is good oil. Kia dealer will get you a free engine if it gets rod knock, seizes up, or gets a...

1985 Toyota MR2 oil selection and UOA question

A UOA will give you important info about the engine even if you don't know the oil. My coworker has an '86 and he found out it was specified for 10w-40. I honestly don't know if that's true and just rolled with it considering the vehicle came from the 80's. I told him to get Castrol and so far...

Plastic oil cartridge : Drain plug ?

My coworker at our Kia shop freaked out over this filter, and then it took him like an hour to finish an oil change on a new Rio.

Honda dealer refuses to change oil after 12 months

Jeep dealer in my town does the same thing except it has to be 1 year or 10,000 miles - on Mopar conventional according to the work order. After a year and around 5k miles, I sent it there and they refused service because they stopped doing walk-ins. Literally just an oil change. You scared...

YOUR WARRANTY ...what is the real chance of a warranty denial b/c of your oil? Examples?

I think I do remember Chrysler being a little crazy about oil filters for warranty claims years ago, so I'm not too surprised about that situation. Believe it or not, Kia and Hyundai have TSB's on incorrect oil filter sizes causing the MIL to light up for cam codes. I've seen it happen once when...

YOUR WARRANTY ...what is the real chance of a warranty denial b/c of your oil? Examples?

Trying not to beat a dead horse, but anyone know an example of aftermarket oil filters causing warranty problems?

Toyota dealer uncertainty in the oil viscosity used

They should be. At my Kia dealer we always put 0w-20 in the Kia Niros and 0w-30 in the I4 Turbo Kia Stingers. We usually use Total, or the fancy bottled Lexus oil from next door depending on what's available.

    High milage oil

I just theorized that if you consistently use HM oil to condition moulded gaskets that are still good, it should help prolong the life of those gaskets before they eventually do leak as compared to a non-HM oil. I do have a 20 year Tacoma V6 that I began using HM oil at 100,000 miles. It had...

    Jeep Grand Cherokee

FCA does factory-fill their engines with Pennzoil, even the SRT engines. The SRT's use 0w-40, however. Requiring 0w-20 is probably FCA enforcing that all their engines should be using synthetic since all 0w-20 oils are synthetic.

    High milage oil

I think HM oil and their seal conditioners only work to the extent that if you always use it well before any leak starts, it might increase the life of moulded rubber and silicone gaskets. If you got old rock-hard valve cover gaskets that are leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold(s), it will...

    Hyundai 2.4 Engine Issues

I'd stay away from the 2.4. Nothing but problems as they age and they always blow up on the highway. Almost every time a 2.4 Kia product with over 100k comes in, I can see from service history or looking at the engine alone that it's on its 2nd motor. Engines are warrantied at least. Hopefully...
