    Post your latest oil change

Not sure if small engines are allowed here, but here goes. My 1950s Briggs Model 5S. Original asking price $50, scored it for $35 because the seller wasn't sure if it ran or not, and it had been on Marketplace almost 6 months. Literally all I did was tighten the two screws that hold the carb...

'19 Tacoma Cold Air Intake - Exciting

My dad's birthday was on the 25th, and for his birthday I got a cold air intake for his Tacoma, which I service regularly and have posted about on here before. He installed it while I was at work, the installation instructions say to disconnect the negative battery terminal during installation...

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

Just got my 6qt case of HPL 0w40 delivered today. When dad's next oil change is due I will be using that, plus the PIAA Z14-M oil filter and running both for roughly 10,000 miles then sending a sample to Blackstone to see how it compares to this UOA from awhile back. This will definitely be...

MC FL-910S with 5,500 miles CUT OPEN

53 Stude- I recently sent a virgin filter your way for a C&P. Tried sending a PM to let you know it was coming but it won't let me send one on my end.

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

So, since I already ordered a 6qt case of HPL 0w40, the current plan is to use that next OCI, run it for 10±K, do a UOA and depending the results go from that. I'm still surprised he's receptive to me trying this with his truck. Thanks everyone.

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

For one, I have over 100+ quarts on hand already

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

He doesn't tow much in the winter but he does like to help unstick cars from ditches and he's pulled stuck semis and tractors before.

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

The sticker under the hood and owners manual spec 0w20 or 5w20 in emergency cases

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

I haven't touched the differentials, transfer case or transmission. He got those done recently at the dealership himself.

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

Just ordered a 6 quart case of their 0w40, to have on hand for his next oil change, which with how much he drives, will surely be within the next month. Thanks

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

I just talked to him, and surprisingly, he's open to trying a heavier oil weight. The current plan is after this OCI, step up to 0w40 then do a UOA after that, and depending how that looks, possibly trying 5w30, because I already have enough of that in my personal stockpile it would mean me not...

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

Good enough for me. I'll ask him if he's comfortable with me stepping up to 0w40 on his next oil change (he's a pretty "by the book" guy when it comes to maintenance) but if he agrees I'll do it and run a UOA afterwards and see how it compares to the one I had done a long while back...

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

Would stepping to a 0w30/40 or 5w30 have any impact on his fuel mileage? Also to be fair he has a 6" lift on 35s, he gets maybe 12mpg downhill on a windy day, and his work pays for most of his fuel expenses so he doesn't really care anyway. I just don't want to accelerate the wear on this...

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

Just curious, with how hard his truck is ran, and for it having high miles being a 2019, would there be any benefit subbing 1 quart of HPL EC for one quart of oil on his next oil change or would it be too risky?

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

Will do, I need to stock up some more 0w20 to have on hand for his truck anyway. I used the last of my 0w20 on his last oil change.

Oil recommendations for dad's truck, severe duty?

Looking for the best oil for my dad's truck and his use case. His use case definitely qualifies as "severe duty." I've been servicing it since his free toyotacare oil changes ran out. I've been using either SuperTech High Mileage 0w20 or Pennzoil black label 0w20 depending which of the two is...

    PBL14612 Purolater Boss Oil Filter

My Pathfinder usually gets OEM filters, it specs the 6607 size (15208-65F0E) but I've always used the 7317 size (15208-9E01A) and there is still plenty of clearance left for an even larger filter.
