2020 Honda Accord EX 58k miles Replaced rear pads only Off: original Honda pads On: NAPA SilentGuard The outer pad was near EOL on both sides, inner was a little better. Rotors had no grooves so they ride on. Front pads have about 50% left so they also ride on.

Valvoline oils: which do you like or prefer?

I'm using R&P in the van (3rd round) and it did no harm (still uses no oil between changes). At this point I have no objective data to know whether it's cleaning more than other oils, but the area under the fill port looks a little lighter colored than it did before. I also use their regular...

The original alternator could have died because of old age at 200k+ miles but the spool valve is known to expedite that failure. If they didn't replace it, it would be good to do it asap. Use the OE Honda part ($$$) if you want a solid repair. Aftermarket spool valves/gaskets are iffy (I used...

Brake cleaner will clear that dipstick right quick! I don't know how much experience you have with the Odyssey's quirks, but but keep an eye on the spool valve.

    FVP XL Oil Filter

The expanded view in the info sheet and the 10k recommendation are consistent with Premium Guard products. Who knows if all their filter models are like this or they use different manufacturers for specific models...

Replacement Oil Change Container Plastic Plugs

Also, beware that any plugs you buy could quickly add up to near the cost of the whole pan. That pan is made by Midwest Can and can be had for $12-15 at various stores; it may be worth just replacing the whole thing. Personally I like the 16 qt pans available at Walmart, advance, and other...

Depends on the state. Somewhat surprisingly, here in SC the insurance co. is required to pay for broken windshields. I assume other states have similar policies (?)

Replacement Oil Change Container Plastic Plugs

The manufacturer likely used a regular plug designed for pipes or other products. If you measure the diam and thread you may find something suitable at the local hardware store or somewhere on the interwebs.

Topping up a fill with a different brand

If one of my cars takes more than a 5qt jug, I rarely use the same oil for an entire fill during the oil change, let alone for top offs! For other people I typically use the same oil for the entire fill unless they tell me to do otherwise. They get what they pay me for.

    VRP is in Canada!

What? VRP is supposed to be 4800 km (3k mile) OCI? I have been using it for 5k miles! Or is the 4800 km recommendation specific to cold climates?

It’s the 1990’s: what motor oil and grade are you using?

I had several cars throughout the 90s and all got Pennzoil 10W-30 and Fram Extra Guard filters. One oil and filter brand for all. And guess what...none of them ever suffered oil-related issues! 1982 Olds Cutlass Supreme V8 265 1991 Chevy S10 V6 2.8 1988 Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl 1989 Olds Cutlass...

    Quaker State synthetic rebate

My local WM carries it for $22.xx/jug. If I place an online order it is currently $20.xx but I have no idea if they will honor the rebate for online shopping. Maybe they will get their sh!t together and fix the link to the approved seller list sometime soon. And maybe even fix the typo in the...

    Balsa Airplane Models

I love these planes! I flew/trashed many of them in my youth and couldn't wait to pick up another kit during the next trip into town. The fancier planes were also great and the hours of assembly made me prize them even more. Alas, they always ended up in the trees or power lines. Then I cried...

Oldest oil filter you ever used?

I tried that with a Fram XG. I got a starting point and made it about an inch before I threw in the towel. That guy made it look easy but I have no idea how!

Wife using rolling seat around planting beds - is that allowed?

That is very diplomatic. I used just go to the store and buy a new tool, after which she fetched the one she took and asked why i needed a duplicate. I responded by asking if she wanted me to spend the day doing the job or looking for missing tools. After a few times she quit taking them!
