    Oil for my 496 BBC

Yes, thank you, really wish it was a 396, love that engine but getting to love the 496 also. Got the stinger hood with the car, and yes, it pulls great!

    Oil for my 496 BBC

Here are some pics of the engine. I think there are baffles, how well they work I don’t know.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

See post 37. Next time it’s down a quart I won’t add any oil And see if it continues to drop. The concern I have is the amount of oil in the intake, too much clear oil pooling. Im using PCV 184, have no idea if it’s the correct one or if it makes any difference.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

Didn’t have to totally get on it to take that 327 365hp!😋 No, pretty sure it was originally a SB.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

How do you know the pan capacity? I always put in 5 quarts w/filter and that puts it on the dipstick full line.

Wouldn’t that affect the idle? Also, vacuum. Getting a steady 10” at idle.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

I drive moderately traveling to and from car shows, cruise ins, etc. Occasional street race. Never over 80mph. Muncie M22W, 3.08 posi. Yes, has oil leaks, probably from rear main but not enough to account for that much oil, IMO. But you’re right, I need to get that fixed after the holidays.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

I think the dipstick is correct but not absolutely sure. I never let it get below a quart.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

Engine idles well at 650, wicked cam in it but don’t know the brand or specs. No oil in the coolant and doesn’t overheat even at ambient 102. Has side pipes with coal black deposit on the concrete under each pipe. The PCV system is questionable. I tried to duplicate a BB system but I don’t think...

    Oil for my 496 BBC

I bought this car about 5 years ago. Car underwent a full restoration and engine was built by a machine shop in Beaumont, Tx. approx. 2002. Has good power, scary to get fully on it, at least to an old man like me.

It’s a 454 stroker motor with a Scat crank, Eagle rods with SRP pistons and Bowtie rectangular port aluminum heads.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

Not necessarily, I’m satisfied with the performance and I can buy a lot of oil for what a rebuild cost will be. Still would like to know where the oil is going. Will a leak down test tell me?

    Oil for my 496 BBC

Maybe you guys can help me with this. Plugs aren’t fouling, appear to be burning clean. Have about 4000 miles on them. No oil burning smoke, seems to have good power. Compression test runs 140 to 152.

    Oil for my 496 BBC

I’m trying to figure out a good oil for my 496 full roller engine. It uses about a quart every 150 miles, (think it has low tension rings) so I try not to use an expensive brand, currently using Walmart diesel 15w40. I also like to use this viscosity because oil pressure is very low, around 10...
