Mobil 1 5W-40 "Truck/SUV" at local Kragen autoparts

Wow, that's great, it's D1! Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that the mass-market retailers like Walmart, AutoZone, and PepBoys will carry this! Oh, and Canadian Tire, too, for you folks up in Canuckistan. But you guys already have D1 at Walmart...

Which synthetic 30wt. oils greater than (or equal) 12cSt @100C ?

BMWUSA's "High Performance Synthetic" 5W-30 (many think it's relabeled Castrol TXT Softec Plus) is 11.9 cSt.

Mobil 1 5W-40 "Truck/SUV" at local Kragen autoparts

At $5/quart this is a very good deal, if this is indeed relabeled Delvac 1!

Mobil 1R Spectro Oil analysis results

I think many people (myself included) want an A3-rated (HT/HS vis > 3.5 cP), 30-weight oil; in most cases this usually means a ~12 cSt kinematic viscosity.

Thanks, Terry. I like Blackstone too. Oilcanboyd's most recent analysis showed insolubles at 0.6%, perhaps he should add some LC?

Well perhaps "insolubles" is not an adequate measure for detecting this--maybe it's better to see the specific nitration/oxidation numbers? Can we get this from Blackstone? Tons of UOAs are reported as "normal" with insolubles at 0.4, including this Civic's recent GC UOA with 5,279 miles on it...

I believe CAFE requirements don't apply to trucks!

Hey Doug, I tried looking for your post about the VW engine failure, but couldn't find it--were you able to do a UOA, and if so did it show anything abnormal? Thanks, Jason

C an someone post a pic of GC bottle

This is the back of the bottle. Look closely beneath the Castrol logo, that's where it says "Made in Germany". Pic courtesy of G-Man II.

3.8 Windstar, What synth oil to use?

There are some really good oils available in Ontario, like GC and Delvac 1--I'd try those.

Widman, create a website saying that it's so! "It's gotta be true, I read it on the internet!"

    Redline 5W40 @ -18

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm currently about 2,000 miles into a 6,000 mile interval of GC and I'm itching to try RL 5W-30 in my car. The GC is fine, mind you, just getting bored and wanna see for myself what this $7/qt oil is all about!

    Redline's HT/HS

Another way of asking this is to ask whether or not Redline 5W-30 meets ACEA A3 spec. I've found a few postings in another forum saying that it does (says so on the bottle, supposedly)--anyone have a bottle of RL 5W-30 handy to look at?

    Redline's HT/HS

Deep in another thread, Titanium_Alloy posted: Question: has Redline ever been tested using the HT/HS method used by Mobil or Amsoil? Or is there a way to correlate? Mostly I'd like to know if Redline 5W-30's quoted HT/HS of 3.8 is greater than 3.5 on Mobil's HT/HS scale! Thanks, Jason

Mobil 1 0w-30 Racing Oil Information

Viscosity... well it depends on the application. And there's more to viscosity than kinematic. Don't forget about HT/HS viscosity. For my application, for instance, I need an oil with an A3 rating, meaning (among other things) that its HT/HS viscosity is > 3.5 cP. If I can get that HT/HS in a...

    Delvac 1 5w-40, 2002 Chrysler T&C 3.8L, 5871 miles

Hey Gary, is Delvac 1 readily available there in Pottstown? My cousin lives in Reading and I think he'd like to try some.

    Redline for my 1.8 (5w-30 or 5w-40)

Not to mention, Redline's advice to run their 5W-30! No viscosity index improvers needed! That's a good thing... less "useless particles" to paraphrase Patman.
