what to run in the i6 4.0

I've used Chevron Supreme, PYB, Rotella T5 and now Defy and honestly couldn't tell much difference at all between them. I will say that my last change on Defy has quieted it down just a bit. Not that it was very loud but it is noticeably quieter.

BEST oil for 1994 Jeep XJ Cherokee

I swapped out Rotella T5 and just threw in some 10w30 Defy and it is noticeably quieter and smoother. $15 for a jug at WM, we'll see how the UOA comes back next year and see but so far so good.

    Fram Ultra XG7317 Pixs - 12K Miles & 18 Months

Man, going to make me feel like I'm going to pull my filter off too early in 12 months when I do another OCI. That would put it at 8k and 24 months.

    Post your BULLETPROOF engines.

Glad to see all three of the engines in my cars mentioned in here! None are without their problems but they are all near 200k and have never left me stranded.

Starting a vehicle after 7 months

If your car is going to sit for a while, wouldn't it make sense to remove the battery and place it somewhere you can throw it on a charger occassionally, say on something like a battery tender? I would think it would be more economical than having to replace the thing.

Failed CA emission - high NO

Thanks for sharing your opinions guys. Plug wires are relatively new, about 20k on them. Not sure I have enough time to add a cleaner and burn the tank as the sticker expires this weekend. I paid but due to smog fail, it's an incomplete registration. Not sure if I can still get a ticket, don't...

Failed CA emission - high NO

Co-worker of mine asked how the smog went. When I told him about the lack of fan during the smog runs, he thinks that might have had an adverse effect on the numbers as well. Cooler morning and making sure shop points the fan at the car, numbers improve?

Failed CA emission - high NO

UPDATE: Replaced EGR, numbers improved quite a bit at 15 mph but not enough at 25 mph. The car was run about 20 minutes prior, 10 minutes on the highway or so (more on temps later). Here are the numbers on this rescan. The smog shop suggested I come back in the morning when it's a bit cooler...

Oil picks for a 99 Buick GS

Used just about every type of oil in my version of the engine and could never tell a difference and UOAs never really changed either.

picked up an XJ Cherokee 4.0, oil recommendation?

Different model, same 4.0. I've used PYB, Chevron Supreme and Rotella T5. Couldn't tell any difference, UOA all looked good. Yup, just something oily.

I keep hearing about cheap aftermarket cats however given that California is super strict about them, wouldn't a cat that is OBD II/CA CARB legal be considered quality? The cat currently on now is CA-legal CARB certified/approved.

Failed CA emission - high NO

Thanks for all the input everyone. I've never failed an emission test before (come close, but never failed) so it's something new to worry about. I've had the car for the last 14 years and 140k miles and haven't cleaned any EGR related items, just replaced the valve many many years ago. Come to...
