New ATV oil consumption problem with Amsoil 0W-40

I have recently bought a new Honda ATV Rancher 420 4x4 and when it was due for its first oil change, I put in what I thougth would be the best syntetic oil money can buy, Amsoil 4-stroke power sports oil 0W-40. the problem is it has only been like two weeks since I change the oil and have only...

Amsoil 0W-20 in late model Tacoma - anybody tried?

Thanks guys. I am going to put it in tonight. I can't wait to see how it does. I have never run any Amsoil oil in any of my vehicles yet, but I recently put Amsoil 0W-40 4-stroke oil in my ATV and was impressed with its performance in smooter shifting and quiter iddling. So I am expecting good...

Amsoil 0W-20 in late model Tacoma - anybody tried?

I have bought some Amsoil 0W-20 fully syntetic oil for my 2008 Tacoma with 2.7L 4cyl. engine. The owners manual calls out 5W-20 or 0W-20, but states that 0W-20 is prefered! I have never run 0W-20 oil before. Only 5W-20 both convensional and synthetic and one time for a short while 5W-30. Does...

    FAQ - GC ( German Castrol )

Has anybody run GC in an engine that is spec'd for 5W-20 / 0W-20. I have a 2008 Tacoma 4 cylinder that I am thinking about putting GC in, but hearing the fact that it is a very thick 30 grade oil scares me. But my wife has a Sienna which calls out 5W-30 and I am sure it would do well in her car.

Any body runs GC 0W-30 in 08 Tacoma 4cyl truck?

After hearing all the good things about GC 0W-30, I bought couple stashes of them from AZ at their current special and going to try it in my 2008 Tacoma 4cyl 4x4 which calls out 0W-20 or 5W-20. has anybody tried it in similar trucks? Do you think it would perform well in my truck?

I have a 2008 Tacoma 4 cylinder truck that calls out 5W-20 or 0W-20 oils. I just bouth some German Castrol Syntec in 0W-30 for next oil change since I heard so much good things about it. What do you guys think? You think it would be OK? you think it would work well in my truck?

Topping off GC 0W-30 with other oils?

I went today to Autozone and took advantage of the great deal they are running on 5 qts of Castrol Syntec and a K&N filter for $25. I got some of that German Castrol (0W-30) that everybody was praising so much to give it a try. but the trouble is my truck holds almost 6 qts of oil, and I hate to...

1/4" over full mark. should I drain excess?

My truck calls out 6.1 qts too, but I didn't even put in 6.0 qts in there and it is already over the full line. some thing doesn't make sense between what the manual says and what the dip stick shows! Based on the feed back from you folks, I think I will leave it be until next oil change. thanks.

1/4" over full mark. should I drain excess?

Again I put a little more oil in when I changed it last time. On these 4 cylinder tacomas it is hard to figure out exactly how much to put in. If you put in what the manual calls out you go over the full line. Now my dipstick shows about 1/4" over the full line. Is it going to be OK till next...

Thinking of putting in 0W-30 instead of 5W-20

Glad to hear that the Tacoma engine design as you describe it would not allow dry engine start ups. One question: What is the "piston slap" that you mensioned? Also my whole aim is trying to get the engine to run quieter and produce less vibration. It has been annoying me and I believe this...

my 2008 Tacoma 2.7L I4 4X4 calls out 5W-20. wondering if anybody has or is using 5W-30 or 0W-30 oil in this engine and what kind of results have you seen? any problems from running a little thicker oil? any benefits?

Thinking of putting in 0W-30 instead of 5W-20

What viscosity curve are you talking about? are you indicating that at the same temperatures the 0W spec oil will be thicker and flow slower than 5w spec oil?

Thinking of putting in 0W-30 instead of 5W-20

Even though it is not as cold as Canada down here in Mississippi, believe me it still gets pretty cold around here too, with many days below freezing in early mornings. It is not like rain forest around here as you might think. But I don't understand your statement about 0W-30 being thicker at...
