    Quaker State Advanced

Does anyone know if the Quaker State Advanced Durability is similar to Pennzoil YB? QS claims a 2x better friction protection than other conventional oils. Is this a "snake oil" claim, or is is true? I just changed over to PP in our Hyundai Veracruz suv, but if the QS is that good, I may go back...

    Never changing oil - Stories

My uncle had a 1988 Jeep Cherokee that he never changed the oil in. I remember him adding a quart to it one afternoon and seeing about a half inch of sludge on the fill cap. He said he had never changed the oil in it, just added a quart every so often. He had a twisted philosophy when it came to...

    Changing filter half way through

I am gonna do an extended OCI for my Hyundai Veracruz. Hyundai recommends a 7k OCI. Im not too terribly comfortable going 7k. Call me old school. But, will there be any benefit to changing out the oil filter and topping off about half-way through the OCI? Say at around 3.5k? I'm using PP 5w-30...

    Fuel Mileage drop

Ok, I drove across town today and filled up at a gas station I don't normally use. So far my mileage is up from 21mpg to 24mpg. My original was 23mpg. Evidently its fuel related. I appreciate everyone input. Thanks -Jeff

    Fuel Mileage drop

Im pretty sure the gas isn't reformulated. Besides its the same gas I've been using for months, unless its been changed out for the season. Hyundai recommends 5w20 to 10w40 for the Veracruz. Hyundai actually recommends 5w20 and 5w30 in the owners manual the same, it gets equal billing. I'm not a...

    Fuel Mileage drop

Also, on a new vehicle, will YB keep the engine as clean as the PP if I maintain a 3k-5k OCI?

    Fuel Mileage drop

Yes, both were 5w30. I was quite shocked. I was averaging 23 on the highway to an from work, now I'm averaging 21. I travel the same way everyday. With very little changes in traffic conditions, so I'm confident that the fuel mileage is spot on. Its actually closer to 10%. I'm thinking about...

    Fuel Mileage drop

I changed from conventional yellow bottle pennzoil to PP synthetic and I have experienced a 5% drop in fuel mileage. I have run several tanks through our 2008 Hyundai Veracruz and it has held true through each tank. Why would I get a DROP in fuel mileage. Im using 5w30 and regular grade gas.

Now Quaker State claims the best wear Protection!

How can each company claim they are the best without any hard proof? Marketing is an evil thing. When I was a kid Q-state got a very bad rep. It was bashed in the automotive industry pretty hard for being a sludge maker. My father used to say "I wouldn't use that in my lawnmower". Now as an...

    76

We use it in our fleet vehicles at work. We use the 76 Super Synthetic Blend 5w-30 and 10w-30. It seems to work great. Many of our fleet vehicles have logged well over 150k miles without issues related to the oil.

    Pennzoi Truck/SUV...

It used to be at our local walmart. Thats all i would run in my V-10 Excursion. Great oil. It disappeared about a year ago. Our Advanced Auto, Auto-Zone, and Kmart don't carry it either. I thought they stopped making it, but it still shows up on pennzoils website.

    Opinions Please

I think I'm gonna go with PP and a 5000 mile OCI. After reading everyone's responses, it seems like the thing to do. Thanks to all for your advice.

Whats the odds of an oil related failure? I read somewhere that the OEM would have to be able to prove it was oil related.

    Opinions Please

I sincerely appreciate the input. Hyundai recommends the usual vague 7500 oci for "normal" conditions and 3000 oci for "severe". The problem is that they appear to overlap. It seems to me it may be a ploy to get you if something happens during the warranty period. I just want the best for my new...

What would be better... A conventional oil (penn yellow bottle) change every 3000 miles, or a synthetic oil(penn platinum) change every 5000 miles? 2008 Hyundai Veracruz SUV. Thanks. Be easy on me, I'm new to the forum.
