Best engine design for a motorcycle?

Perfect engine design for a motorcycle? Supercharged inline, 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine, with direct injection. The 3 cylinder 2-stroke engine is the smallest engine with a perfect primary balance. It's a very compact engine design, making it suitable for transverse layouts, and can be built...

Anyone seen one of these before?

The one in your picture appears to have a few modifications. The handlebars, exhaust, and seat don't look stock. With that said, I originally hated the R1200C, but it kind of grew on me. I admit that the faired version still looks kind of strange. Interesting note: Typically, the BMW lineup is...

    Oil consumption rate (Amsoil/Redline)

So, final results... Redline 10w-50 MCV burned just about a full liter of oil in 6000 miles. Not as good as the Amsoil, but significantly better than last time, and within what I would consider an acceptable limit for this type of motorcycle. Apparently, my R1150R strongly prefers 10w-50.

New rider looking for a sport touring motorcycle

Oil_Flunky, If this is your first bike, I'd recommend you start off with something lightweight. A heavy bike like a ST1300 can be handful to move around the garage, through traffic or at the side of the road, and if you find yourself in a situation where the bike starts to fall over, it's...

    Oil consumption rate (Amsoil/Redline)

Unfortunately, I did not purchase the bike new. Based on the condition of the rear brake rotor (it was obviously allowed to make metal on metal contact with the pads,) the rust, corrosion, the sun damage to the upholstery, and the apparent lack of maintenance, I don't have high hopes that it was...

    Oil consumption rate (Amsoil/Redline)

So, there is a difference between the Amsoil/Redline Motorcycle Specific oils and the standard car oils in terms of oil consumption rates? I was under the impression that the major difference was mainly the addition of extra Zinc and Phosphorus.

    Oil consumption rate (Amsoil/Redline)

Okay. I'll probably re-fill with Redline 20w50 next change. I'd like to make an apples to apples comparison.

    Oil consumption rate (Amsoil/Redline)

Some experience with my BMW R1150R has raised some questions about oil consumption rates. I purchased this bike with about 8,000 miles on the odometer. I refilled it with re-filled with Redline 10w40 at about 10K, After a lowside (crash) spilled a lot of my engine oil. 10w40 is slightly lighter...

Oil changed every race -- What about the filter?

Thanks Gary. That's a good point -- if you're changing oil every race, there really shouldn't be much particulate in the engine. Another line of thought... Would there be any wear or failure conditions you could catch by cutting the filter open after every race?

Oil changed every race -- What about the filter?

This question comes from a motorcycling specific forum: Quote: How often do you change your oil and filter on your race bike and/or track bike? Prepping an engine for the track bike, and it will have Megacycle Cams. They recommended using an ester-based oil like that of Silkolene or Motul at...

Four-Ball wear test: Amsoil versus Red Line

This is a variation on the Guilt By Association argument. Bleach passes the 4 ball test. Bleach is a bad lubricant. Therefore the 4 ball test is a bad test. Both carb cleaner and soap do a good job of cleaning oil. I would not want to shower using carb cleaner. Therefore, the ability to clean...

    home air compressor recomendations please

I purchased a 6 gallon Craftsman pancake compressor. It's small and light enough to easily carried with one hand, but has enough air volume to run most common tools at a light duty cycle. Something like that should be good enough to take apart your car, but not to run a shop. You could perform...
