Is it really important to change oil when it is warm?

I've read several threads that talk about changing oil shortly after a car has been driven a while. Why is this? Is there any harm in changing oil when the car has sat for a few hours, or even overnight? It seems to me that if a car were just run it would be too hot under there especially if...

"Turbonator"/Vortex Generator: an additive - of sorts

Well that settles it. I was about to buy one of these things to try but I'll use the money instead for a UOA - the truck will be much better off in the long run! Thanks for the responses to my question.

    Is Break-in Oil a myth

Ray, I don't know anything about the Ohio assembly plant's factory fill oil supplier. I don't even know what models Honda builds there. My Ridgeline was built in Canada and I heard they use a Superflo oil in it. Many people believe the higher than the normal Superflo moly content comes from the...

Anyone use teflon tape on their oil drain plug?

Yes H2, the Honda does require the adapter. Because it is flat metal to flat metal, there has to be a washer of some sort between the valve and adapter. I thought the blue washer they supplied would be okay for that application but I did not think it would be suitable for the adapter to pan...

What to use for a dispenser bottle? LC20 and FP60?

A shot glass. Fill it up five times and toss the stuff in your tank - you're now good for 25 gallons of gas. Just don't loose track of what you are doing!!!

    Legal violation by honda dealership?

Is KREX additive anything like LC20? I started using LC20 after the first 3000 miles on my new 2006 Honda. Even though the manual says additives are not needed and "could" harm the engine, it does not prohibit them. I use LC20 because of the excellent reputation it has among some very...

    Is Break-in Oil a myth

My new Honda Ridgeline truck's manual does not even mention OCI by miles. All it says (and this includes the factory fill) is to change oil only when the OLM service notice comes on. I have 5800 miles on mine and the OLM shows oil life expectancy of 20%. The service due notice comes on when...

    LC20 and a question

I looked at the LC/FP (Lubecontrol) website just now and the recommended doseage is 1 oz. per quart for the initial treatment and 1 to 2 oz. every thousand miles thereafter. Again, this is fine tuned for you depending on the results of your UOA.

Anyone use teflon tape on their oil drain plug?

H20024.6L - thanks for that information. I was wondering about that little blue washer as it looks thin and is not very substantial. In fact, I emailed Fumoto a while back about this and was told any washer will work and indeed the thicker ones might be better if I needed to get the drain spring...

    The next step in lubrication

The only next step from synthetic to better lubrication is to use LC20 with the synthetic.

    LC20 and a question

From what I understand, this doseage is the one they use to recommend. Now, it is one once per quart. However, used oil analysis (if Terry Dyson has input) can fine tune the amount. It may be more than you put in or it may be less. In any event, you should not worry about the amount you put in...

Anyone use teflon tape on their oil drain plug?

Okay guys, thanks for the good info and tips. I think I'll try the Fumoto without doing anything with the threads. I will watch my garage floor real close for a while and if I notice a leak I'll try something else, or install a new washer.

Anyone use teflon tape on their oil drain plug?

I am about to do my first oil change on my 2006 Honda and purchased a Fumoto valve to replace the drain plug and make future oil samples and changes easier. Since the Fumoto is a permanent replacement for the oil plug, I was concerned that after a long time and many pounding miles, it might...

    2004 Honda CR-V Recommendations

I have a 2006 Honda with the VTEC V6 engine and run 5w20. When the OLM says to change the factory oil I will and it will be Havoline 5w20 with LC20 (I also use FP60 for gas). This is a truck that cost over $30,000 so a few extra dollars for synthetic oil once or twice a year does not bother me...

dashboard OCI says 86% life left at 1000 miles

Well, I don't know about Saab's OLM being more advanced but I know mine is - Honda Ridgeline. Why? Because everything Honda touches is more advanced and has been for many years. Not only in autos but motors of all kinds from racers to boat engines to lawn mowers. Their record speaks for itself...

I am the king of short trips and hard driving. Advice needed.

Every thing I have learned here tells me that the above posters are correct - take the car out on the highway and now and then give it a good half hour run at least. Besides that, 5000 mile OCIs with any good dino oil - as long as you use LC20 and FP60. If you don't use these products, stick...

    5w20 users, Car, Mileage, OCI

2006 Honda Ridgeline truck. I go by the OLM which just turned to the 20% oil life expectancy mark (5800 miles on truck). I will change the factory fill to Havoline 5w20 and LC20 when the service due notice comes on. It comes on when the oil life expectancy shows 15%. I bet that will be around...

"Turbonator"/Vortex Generator: an additive - of sorts

I'm not sure where to put this thread but this product is an "additive" of sorts. It is metal and you place it inside your air intake hose and they claim, like many liquid "additives" that you will get more horsepower and better fuel economy simply by the airflow stimulation. Has anyone ever...
