    cone vs flat

Actually, cutting out the bottom of the airbox is a common mod with ls1 owners. The factory only gives the f-bodies two thin slits to serve as a air intake for the filer. Bub

    160 deg. thermostat

Outrun, where are you from in Texas. There is a big shootout at River City Raceway in early march. If you need details go to LS1tech.com forums section. This is gonna be a huge f-body meet. Bub

    160 deg. thermostat

The e-water pump is definitely a future mod. I think Mezier is coming out with a electric pump for the LS1's.

I appreciate the input very much, us f-body guys gotta stick together. I'll probably go get a 180 as soon as I can. Bub

    160 deg. thermostat

Well sorry to say it's already been ordered. If it turns out to be bunk I'll ditch it and order the 180. Thanks for the advice. One thing that I forgot to mention is that the fans will be set at 175 (small) and 190 (large) so the engine will acutally be running hotter than the t-stat opening...

    Moly - Who needs it????

Hey Patman Centrum may not contain moly but it does have molybdenum, calcium, and boron. Sounds like a good additive package to me. Bub

    160 deg. thermostat

Yes I plan to. But I'm still waiting on a 12 bolt rear to be installed. I don't plan to see great numbers on TBN ox. ni. ect. because of a slight blowby on the no. 1 cylinder, but I'm doing it maily for the wear #s This car has had impecable maintenace since I bought it, but It has had the hell...

    160 deg. thermostat

on my Z28 a-tap has confirmed that the coolant temp stays more around the 210-220 deg far. As for running in open loop, all has been taken care of by LS1 edit. The flame suit was referring to the weight of the motor oil, not the manufacurer. Bub [ February 24, 2003, 01:23 PM: Message edited by...

    160 deg. thermostat

My 1998 Z28 will soon have a 160 degree thermostat installed. The question is, under normal driving will the oil get hot enough to burn off the contaminats that get in the oil following the first few minutes after startup? FYI: I'm using the long K&N oil filter and (flame suit on ) Mobil 1...

    stp air filters

looked at an STP for my truck today. It appeared to have the same number of pleats and all around appeared to be the same filter as the AC Delco filter that came from the factory. If I'm not mistaken Champion Labs makes one of the versions of AC Delco oil filters, perhaps they make AC's air...

    DEX-COOL Tragedy !

I have 2 GM vehicles. One has a pressurized overflow bottle, and one that does not. On the car with the non-pressurized overflow I have to fill it with dexcool very often, more so that any cars I've owned that ran green coolant. Anyway get that gasket replaced ASAP if you haven't already. Bub

    Valvoline Oils in Europe

Their synthetic tranny fluid only specs out to dextron II E. Is dex III not required in European GM vehicles, or have they just Fallen behind?

    AC filters...

Sorry to bring up an old topic. I just bought two AC delco pf 59s this week. One has the spot welds but the other is a design that I have not seen on a delco so far. I bought it a auto zone. It has a convex base plate, crimps holding the gasket in place with the letter "G" stamped on the base...

    Torque Converter noise

The 4L80E in my 2500 HD does the same thing, but I just mash the gas a little and the TCC locks in firm. I believe the gas milage explanation, mine goes into OD at 30 mph and then hunts for the right gear, so just like you I use 3D until I get on the highway. gas prices just topped 1.69 for...

    LS1 Cleaning

I'm not sure about the 3800 rocker gasket. The LS1 gaskets are reusable if no tears or damage are visible. I reused mine and it actuall leaks less oil around the valve covers that it did before I removed them go figure. anyway the type I have is a blue rubber gasket, I'd be curious to know what...

    LS1 Cleaning

I would have to agree with Patman. When I pulled the rocker covers off to install new valvesprings the thing looked like it just came off the line. I use Mobil 1 and have put some pretty extensive track time on my 98 Z28. BTW mine had 60,000 miles on the clock when we opened it up. Bub

    So much for engine breakin...............

A friend of mine did pre-delivery inspections (PDI's) on all of the new fords at his dealership. I always made him call me when they got a new shipment of Mustang GTs in.
