Getting extremely confused on what to use in 2021 Veloster N

Yes the Elantra and Kona N have the same engine. There's no new off the lot version because they stopped making them in 2022 but Hyundai dealers put garbage semi synthetic 0w20 Quaker state in unless they are a good dealership where they will have their own oil specifically for Ns but that's...

Getting extremely confused on what to use in 2021 Veloster N

Yes I am way over thinking this, it's a problem I have with pretty much everything. The reason I'm hesitant to trust the manual is the same engine in the 2022 manuals in the Elantra N/Kona N requires SP and removed the C2 option completely. So yes while technically I'm following my owners...

Velosters and Mobil 1 have a pretty spooky history I still haven't gotten over 😂

Can you elaborate on that? The calcium levels I mean. It was my understanding the primary factor for LSPI is calcium levels with Xcess being an SP oil with higher calcium levels. If it's not obvious I'm still pretty new to figuring out how all the certifications actually change the oil so I...

What's considered low enough calcium to prevent LSPI, like the X-Clean EFE has around 1800 in a VOA and is SN but the Xcess gen 2 has a lot more and is now an SP. **** is confusing, especially when I come across this (attachment)

Getting extremely confused on what to use in 2021 Veloster N

I like the Motul X-Clean EFE personally because of the low saps and high HTHS and I get it at cost. But then I went down the rabbit hole about LSPI and it not being SP etc. Doing more reading just now though it seems MB 229.52 has an LSPI test. Maybe just stick with Motul until the warranty is...

Getting extremely confused on what to use in 2021 Veloster N

Sounds good, one question I have is that is listed as equivalent to A3/B4 (from memory might be wrong letters) but earlier in this thread it was mentioned that the C2/C3 is better for DIT carbon deposits. Is that accurate? Is it more nuanced? Should I seek out an HPL that mimicks the C2/C3 if it...

Maybe not but Hyundai has been known to do some scummy stuff so I'd rather not F around and find out if you know what I mean, especially since I already get the oil changes done outside the dealership.

Good point, I checked the API directory and Redline isn't listed. Finding oil is becoming extremely frustrating. The weirdest part is X-Clean EFE being listed as both SP and SN, like *** is that supposed to mean. It's a pipe dream but I'm basically hoping someone just comes along and says "X...

Unless it changed recently they put "meets or exceeds X spec" which means they didn't get certified but believe it meets the certification. Judging by Amsoils cult following it likely does but my understanding is they don't actually have the certifications (again I last checked a few months ago)

Getting extremely confused on what to use in 2021 Veloster N

So what I'm looking at right now is Redline euro 5w30 as it has SP, ACEA C2/C3, LL-04, dexos 1, MB 229.31/229.51/229.52, Porsche C30, VW 504.00/505.00/505.01/507.00/511.00 among others. So all the good euro specs + SP + C2/C3 an HTHS of 3.6 and a NOACK of 5 All that sounds good to my...

Also I'm going to be straightforward and say between the SP or C2 requirements I have no clue what to pick until warranty is up that is both a high quality performance oil and prevents lspi. I've been browsing the VOA section and the ones I like aren't SP so I'm just straight up lost 🫠

Does HPL not have certs similiar to Amsoil? I suppose I can go check while I ask.

I've been very interested in Amsoil but given how strict Hyundai is with what oil you use and it's lack of certifications I've been hesitant

Getting extremely confused on what to use in 2021 Veloster N

Any recommendations on what to change to? The X-Clean gen 2 5w40 has c40 where the EFE doesn't but I'm not married to Motul. Just whatever is the best option given the 5 year Canadian warranty Hyundai has I want to take as many steps as I can to keep it running, suffice to say Hyundai history...

So I just found this that lists X-Clean EFE as SP?????????????

    Best oil for a 2021 Veloster N

I know I just made a thread but it was focused on my current oil (Motul X-Clean EFE 5w30) and I had decided it was adequate based on the replies but some conversations in the track group on FB made me skeptical again because of the lack of an SP or higher rating meaning I'm lacking the LSPI and...

Getting extremely confused on what to use in 2021 Veloster N

I'd preferably stick to 5w30/40 as per the first attachment since I don't drive it in the winter and it gets used pretty hard in the summer. But it's cool to see all the oils listed like that to make things easier.
