I also just switched to GC from M1 in my '02 MINI Cooper S. I'm not sure if it's a placebo effect but I swear the engine runs a little smoother. I haven't had the chance yet to take it out for a good drive so I can't report any more. Only time will tell...
"pure coolant" will not cool the engine. Water has a very high thermal condictivity allowing it to shed engine heat rapidly. Coolant has virtually zero thermal conductivity. The car would overheat. Coolant lowers the freezing point and slightly raises the boiling point of the water. It also has...
I have an '02 MCS. There's a sticker on the engine bay and in the owners manual that says "MINI recommends Castrol." Many people (including myself) are using Mobil 1 5w-30 since it was/is a better oil that regular Syntec. My next change will be with GC 0w-30. We'll see how that goes.
It also depends on what kind of car you drive. A new car running in its prime shouldn't need to be checked that often. Some cars (most notably old British one's) should have their oil level checked every time you start them up; although you can usually tell by the size of the puddle underneath...
Ah, this brings back memories of Physics: E&M. The last three posts are right on. AC causes muscles to tighten and DC doesn't. You only need a couple hundred mA of AC to be killed, DC requires 2-3 times that. This is why when working on AC, you use the one hand rule: only use one hand so if you...
I stopped at an AZ near my college a couple weeks ago and they had it for $5.39. Then I went up to the one near my house a couple days ago and it was $5.99 : (
Actually, my experience with hybrids tends to think they running cooler than other cars since they are designed for minumum friction. This is why 0w-20 is used. We have a 2000 Honda Insight that was started on Honda dino 0w-20 and then switched to synthetic Mobil 1 0w-20 a couple years later...
