By "someone else," do I take it you do not care for PureONE? Fine if do, just curious.

    Magmefine Power Steering Filters

It seems that there is a difference between Magnefine's automatic transmission filter and the one for power steering units. Here is a quote from their emails to me: "The only difference between the Power steering and the Transmission filter is the by- pass valve setting. The power steering...

    Now that Bosch owns Purolator......

Bosch's purchase of Purolator was a stock market, money for the share holders move. It won't change Purolator, but I am sure Bosch's quality will be brought up to Purolator's. Be thankful it was not a Chinese company!

what is so bad about fram?

I have a "problem" whenever I hear how a product is "Number 1," in the market place - therefore they must be "good." In cases like Mobil 1, and especially Fram, they are number 1 because of marketing/advertising. I regret having to put Mobil 1 in this comparision with Fram, as it is a fine...

    Average Oil Changes Per Year

I'm going to catch flak over this, but oh well! I drive very few miles a year, averaging approx 4400, use Red Line and Purolator PureONE filters, and still change both 4 times a year, with about 1100-1200 miles on them. Why? No other reason than it can't hurt, and I like fresh oil in my engine...

    NICE INFO on oil filters!!!

Yes sir! I emailed Purolater ([email protected]) and simply asked them for it on the PureONE. I asked because of their posting a higher efficiency rating (99.9%) on their boxes with the new coatings. I am now waiting for their response to the same thing in beta ratings. Let ya know.

synthetic oil compatibility with plastic parts

"Potential stress cracking of plastic components like POM (polyoxymethylene) in the presence of PAOs (polyalphaolefins)." From Wikipedia; Disadvantages of synthetic oils.

synthetic oil compatibility with plastic parts

My understanding is that it is only PAOs that showed this problem. Trying to remember where I read this.

    NICE INFO on oil filters!!!

Each to their own. I myself am torn between the PureONE and the Ford Racing version of the FL 820S.

Whoops! My response just above was meant for Labman, not you, daman. Sorry! Yeah, I know, I misspelled "ownership." and "FANTASTIC". I got excited.

    NICE INFO on oil filters!!!

Some months ago I quiried Purolator about my concerns of flow restriction, concerned that to have so high of filtering efficiencies,it must exist. Their response was that one of the reasons they pack in so much media, was to insure (by testing) that flow restrictions were NOT a concern. While I...

    Magnetic Drain Plugs

FilterMag makes some great (although pricey) magnets. For the oil pan, I use one of their transpan mags (TM 360) and stick it in the middle. It has an advertised pull strength of 45lbs. A drain plug, besides being very small, has VERY little magnetic force.

Does relief valve PSI matter much?

So, if I start using a Ford Racing filter instead of the regular Motorcraft FL 820S, the racing filter's much higher bypass pressure only means that more of my oil gets filtered before it opens? In practical terms, for a street v6, does it take a WOT before it opens (assuming its not clogged)?

Does relief valve PSI matter much?

Not a dumb question at all, for I want to know why the differences also.

owners manual says different weight could damage

I believe they are probably concerned with someone using too heavy of a viscosity. I go with what the guys above say; 0w-30 or 5w-30. Since you are under warranty (is it new?) and may one day be asked to provide a sales receipt, you probably want to stay w/5w-30; just in case.
