Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

I agree - I won’t switch to Redline - but now your suggestion of PP Euro and Edyvw’s of Castrol 0W30 have me wondering about Mobil 1 0w40. I know they are all excellent. Is HTHS a way to choose between them?

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Good questions- nothing now especially after replacing the coolant pipes near the manifold. My reason for reviewing my choice of oil was to ward off as much engine wear as possible to keep the car going

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

I think that is the true German Castrol - better than Mobil 1 0-40 euro? HTHS ? I am tempted

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Thanks again for those words of encouragement- the in line 6 classic BMW engines have been - almost as much as my golden retrievers - one of the nicest things in my lifetime

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Thank you. Mobil 1 0w40 euro FS is not an FE oil I believe

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

I agree 100 per cent. Last year We replace every pipe and hose and part of the cooling system and it has made all the difference. I like the idea of fresh oil and just dosing on LL-01 oils. I wonder how long this M54 can go -400000? Thank you for your thoughtful ideas

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Thank you for any help in advance. OCIs have been 6000-7000 miles with many years of Castrol 0w40 and now more recently mobil1 0w40. I have had the car since 59000 miles and the engine looks good and runs great really. I am thinking of going to 5000-6000 OCIs now and was looking for a good HTHS...

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Thanks- I thought that might be the case. Your input makes me wonder if there is some other improvement to support Redline. I’m not sure if high esters would hurt or help. The car isn’t burning oil or leaking right now ( so great lol)

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

My e46 still runs great at 311k miles- I want to keep it running indefinitely- would a Redline oil (or another high HTHS oil) help me. I am using Mobil 1 Ow49 euro now

Is M1 the only 0W-40 that is approved for SP, A40 and LL-01?

Excellent. Thanks as always.Do you think it has a bit of group 4 or 5 in it ?

Is M1 the only 0W-40 that is approved for SP, A40 and LL-01?

Is Mobil 1 0w40 Euro ok for an E46 if oil changes are every 7000 miles ? I sense this oil is one of the best at a reasonable price

Pennzoil Euro 0W40 vs Pennzoil Euro 5w40 - the 5w40 cost twice as much. Is there a good reason?

Yes- both prices are online prices. It seems the Pennzoil euro 0w40 might be the better oil and also half the price

Pennzoil Euro 0W40 vs Pennzoil Euro 5w40 - the 5w40 cost twice as much. Is there a good reason?

I’m not sure Mobil 1ow40 still has the LL 01 approva. I’ve been reading and many of the well informed posters suggest the both of these 0w40s are superior even without the LL 01 I believe

Pennzoil Euro 0W40 vs Pennzoil Euro 5w40 - the 5w40 cost twice as much. Is there a good reason?

Just a short question about the two Pennzoil Euros. The 5w40 is $52 for 6 quarts and the 0w40 is about $26 on Walmart for 5 quarts. Most importantly is one oil technically superior than the other ?

Castrol Euro 0w40 just received is made in Belgium

How did you know - the expensive ones

Castrol Euro 0w40 just received is made in Belgium

Just a little news about a good oil. Castrol Euro 0w40 just arrived from Amazon (purchased at new lowered price of $28.95). It states it is made in Belgium ( and not packaged in USA)- a good sign. It has the MB 229.5 but not the BMW LL 01 approval.

Very interesting. Do you feel it is as good or better than Castrol Euro 0w40 or other Castrol oils ?
