    Garand OP rod spring?

Absolutely. Op Rod Spring is the first thing I replace on any Garand I’ve bought. While the rifle isn’t picky about ammo, I am. I run Federal American Eagle 150 grain (marketed for the M1) or S&B or PPU ammo specifically designed for the M1. The rifle will run with heavier/hotter ammo, but...

    Garand OP rod spring?

Springs are always at the top of my list when a Garand starts to malfunction. I’ve seen Garands run with that kind of bend in the spring, but I would replace that spring if it were my rifle. The Op Rod Spring also lifts the follower. Given the weird feed issue, the op rod spring would be a...

    Parts store follies.

How much is 2 hours of your time worth? Buy a couple common sizes from Zoro, or Grainger, or Amazon, for less than $65 and save yourself a couple of hours of wandering around getting frustrated next time.

    Parts store follies.

I have a drawer in which I keep taps, dies, thread chasers, Time-Serts, and Helicoils. In my drill bit drawer, I have a set of 1/8-1/2 by 1/64ths. I have a set of Metric bits. I’ve got the ability to do the thread repair and move on. If I worked full time in a shop, or owned a shop, I would...

    EGR and Detonation

Your EGR wasn't working, then. The spark advance in the distributor was predicated on EGR - you would get more advance on an EGR engine (different weights in the dissy). If it was all knocking, then, the advance was there, but the EGR wasn't. Now, which vacuum port did you use? Because there...

Sunset and putting solar to bed

Actually - this post is the one that contains personal insult and is the foundation of bickering. Anyone who opens a thread with “just an observation” strongly pro/con on a controversial topic should expect participation and alternative points of view. Why throw the observation out there if...

Another electric car almost out of power.

Yep. Always filled at 1/4 tank on my 4Runner with its submerged pump, and the original pump was still going strong at 280,000 when I gave the truck away.

Sunset and putting solar to bed

Yeah, um - you offered one solar data point on a sunny day, on the longest day of the year. That’s some serious cherry-picking of data right there. And then you accuse @OVERKILL of bias because he offered a second data point, on the same facilities 12 hours later? Please. Track it over a...

    King Air sticks the landing…..

I don’t have any problem with people speculating about the cause of aircraft accidents as long as it’s respectful and pilots aren’t getting blamed without any verifiable data. Age is only one data point, among literally hundreds, that should be considered.

Old Winter Tires - A Bridge Too Far

FWIW - I replace winter tires when they reach 6/32”. Once the tread gets below that, they stop performing as well in the snow. You could leave them on in the summer, run them down, and use them up - and I’ve done that, but winter tires in the summer are “squishy“. The soft rubber, the tall...

    King Air sticks the landing…..

It wasn’t a single pilot flying, however, there was a second pilot, and it appears to have been flight instruction. There is a lot more going on here than that one pilot’s age.

Why Boeing Can't Stretch the 737 Max any Longer

The 321 XLR is the planned 757 fleet replacement. It’s been public for a long time. https://simpleflying.com/united-airlines-executive-1st-airbus-a321xlr-delivery-2026/ What is also public - Airbus has failed to deliver the airplane. It’s several years late. So, it’s pretty hard to replace...

3/4 Ton Gas vs Diesel vs Tundra

Depends on the year - Mine is 10,000 lbs. So, 7K is well within your rule of thumb. The newer ones (twin turbo) are slightly higher, but I would recommend, for both the OP budget as he’s articulated, and for reliability, sticking with a 5.7.

The reason modern jets have rounded windows

No, they're not hermetically sealed, but even the doors seal under pressure - if they don't, you get a loud squeal that lasts the entire flight, and there are places where air can leak out, but they're very, very small amounts of air even under max PSI. Avionics cooling can dump air overboard...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

The more I examine the video, and the more I look at the airplane itself, the more I lean towards a dual engine power loss. Perhaps flameout, perhaps not, but either way, it looks to have affected both engines.

    King Air sticks the landing…..

Engine out work... Flying right at VMC. They never did line up with centerline. Reckon this was a control problem while practicing/training Single Engine approach and landing.

The reason modern jets have rounded windows

Is the outflow valve closed, or open? The outflow valve on a widebody is BIG. It will leak slowly - very, very slowly - if the valve is closed. So slowly in fact, that you can blow up the airplane by adding interior pressure. It's not "gushing" out through door seals, windows, or anything...

3/4 Ton Gas vs Diesel vs Tundra

The Tundra will ride far better than an F250, get better MPG than that V-10, and a 7K trailer is a piece of cake for the 5.7. I would neck down to 1 vehicle, and save the cost of ownership, and I would choose the Tundra.
