    2024 Frontier 3.8 - New Addition

The Pro series has a Bilstein suspension. It can ride a little rough without weight, seems to improve a lot once you pack it up with gear and/or people.

    2024 Frontier 3.8 - New Addition

I know this sounds crazy but I’m seeing better MPG with the Purolator Boss filter. I’m seeing this in both my F150 & now the Frontier. The flow rates are very good with this filter and I believe this is contributing. Nissans computer tends to be very generous on its calculations but even at 27 -...

    2024 Frontier 3.8 - New Addition

Hey guys, For your viewing pleasure. Some sparkles but not bad. Nothing notable in the can that I could see. Honestly, it’s what you can’t see that I am more concerned about. I went with the Puralator Boss filter. The inside of the media was clean. OEM filter seems OK, but not great. I wonder...

Not break-in oil, my break-in oil change. I like the get the metal debris out at 500 miles.

    2024 Frontier 3.8 - New Addition

We just added this Pro-X to the family. My wife’s new truck. Coming up on the first break-in oil change. I’m going to go with 5w-30. I tried hard to find some kind of reference to approved viscosities in the US service manual, but nothing. Even a Nissan tech could not find anything other than...

    Engine Hours instead of Mileage

Every hour idle generally equals 30 miles. I try to keep my idle time to a minimum.

    Mobil 1 ESP 0W30

Since you are tuned and pushing higher boost I would personally go with 5w-40.

    2024 Toyota Tundra 3.4LTT

That’s because of the quality of the internal parts. Imagine how much longer they could last with a higher quality filter…

What is considered as 'Optimal' engine oil temperature... ?

Seems too cool, maybe it’s a vette thing, but I always understood anything below 160 or so keeps the viscosity on the thick side for ideal operation.

    2024 Toyota Tundra 3.4LTT

I agree with what you are saying. You make some solid points. I think Toyota generally builds a very high-quality engine, but the data shows there are better options available. Longevity in my opinion is based on the quality of the internal parts versus the oil filter. I would rather sacrifice...

Here you go. I use the Purolator Boss filter.

With MPG ZDDP is more important than viscosity

2023 F150 5.0 / 3.373. Averaging 55 - 65 MPH. Motul X-cess 8100 Gen2 5w-40 / E40 as the fuel. 100 degree weather. First pic is strictly highway from onramp to exit. Second is the return trip with 15% city. No mountains, no tailwind, none of that. These are normal conditions in the metro Atlanta...

    2024 Toyota Tundra 3.4LTT

I will have to find the article, there are post on this forum as well. I've seen both 50% & 60% at 20 microns. Considering it's a pretty cheap filter, cost wise, and not made of synthetic material, it's obvious it would not rate well. Any high quality filter pretty much starts at around $15...

    2024 Toyota Tundra 3.4LTT

The only thing I would suggest though not using the OEM filter, considering the whole machining debris fiasco, and a kind of crappy OEM filter that may not be the best idea. It actually has pretty poor filtration ratings.

    2024 Toyota Tundra 3.4LTT

Considering there are a number of people that are still spinning bearings, even on 24’s, I would suggest you flush that oil system out asap and invest in a magnetic drain plug. I don’t believe the whole machining debris claim, it sounds more like a design flaw, but we shall see. Two separate...

    MPG vs UOA

I have watched a number of video from LSJ with UOA’s and Dyno’s looking at wear numbers and how viscosity affects this. The guy formulates his own oils, I’ll trust his opinion over keyboard warriors, no offense. Again, he clearly states the number 1 factor in oil degradation is dilution.

    MPG vs UOA

I agree with what you saying to a point, but my theory on why mileage decreases is full dilution. If ZDDP contributes to maintaining this film and it’s been shown time and time again fuel dilution, particularly in DI engines, destroys these additives, it’s only logical to see a decrease in...

    MPG vs UOA

Lake Speed Jr specifically said the levels of ZDDP in M1 euro 40 weight is why the oil maintains rather good efficiency and MPG properties, but he also says this oil is prone for LSPI.
