Are these metal shavings in my engine oil?

I like to separate all the filter media from the filter frame, and wrap it with some paper towels. Then you put it under a heavy object or press and leave it there for some hours until the majority of the oil drains out. Then you can check for metals. Normally, particles will accumulate...

Are these metal shavings in my engine oil?

The "1" and "2" look like bubbles. On the filter media, it is hard to say beacuse it's too wet.

Fuel dilution - 1.9 mile commute. Let idle before leaving?

Idling with a cold engine will only improve the fuel dilution. With only a short commute, your oil won't be hot enough to justify letting it idle when you reach your destination either. There is no other way around it, other than driving for longer distances, or forget about it and follow...

Oil for neglected Alfa Romeo Twin Spark

I am thinking of doing a couple short OCIs with that oil. Is there any harm in that? No harm, if temperatures where you live allow a 10W to be used, i can't see anything more that could do harm. I have no idea what oil is recommended for that engine, but i can bet 10W40 should be one of them...

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

No Sir! They were made in 07/2021 Plenty of CI / SL oils around here, they are alive and kicking! These ones i had to buy from an online store, so i couldn't choose the ones that had a more recent fabrication. But when i buy locally (like Shell RT4 X or Lubrax), i usually find then like 4 to...

    FRAM Ultra XG2 - 2020 Jeep SRT - Varnish?!

That filter media looks like it's holding a lot of carbon for that relative low milage. Not familiar with this engine but it looks like it gives the oil a hard time. Can you mesure how hot the filter gets at op. temperature and after shut down?

What are you working on today?

Bleeding the brakes the proper way, with an old juice bottle and having the wife scream on the driver's seat. :ROFLMAO: Refilled with ATE SL DOT4. Also changed the rubber seals from the MC.

Spark Plug Replacement After 18 years.

If you tend to keep the car you will have to change it anyway, so i would change as soon as possible. The more you wait, the worse it will get. Take your time and let the penetrating oil do his job overnight. After that much time i am sure new plugs will provide some benefits. Good luck!

How to find out the ZDDP

Like FDC said, most API SL / ACEA A3/B4 or E7 for Diesels, always tend to have high ZDDP. I would look for a HDEO SL / E7 / MB 228.3

Safe to switch from SAE 80 to 75W-80?

It would be a great choice, but since it's that expensive, making the change for a typical 75W-80/85 full synthetic will already be a nice jump compared to the SAE 80. You will be going from a VI of ~100 to ~160

Safe to switch from SAE 80 to 75W-80?

I saw that when i was searching for some threads of this subject, i was going to ask you what you ended up using. From what i saw, most SAE 80 and "80W" GL-4 have a cSt@100 around 10~10,9, the 75W-80's around 8.9~9,5 and 75W-85's around 11~13. So for our oldies, the 75W-85 will give us a...

Safe to switch from SAE 80 to 75W-80?

So, i sent the Total 75W-80 back, paid the difference and received the AC Delco 75W-85. On the bottle it says that it is imported from Germany and made by BP Europe SE Castrol. The only Castrol 75W-85 made in Germany that i found was the Syntrans, so it should be similar to this...

Safe to switch from SAE 80 to 75W-80?

I think i will skip the 75W-80, i have a friend that can use it in his Renault. I am a bit afraid of going thinner, i live in a hot climate and sometimes push the car a little bit. Maybe my trans only reach 80°C/176F, and the difference there is around 3,2 cSt. ( the oils have a VI of 106...
