Which is the best Noack oil? I have these choices:

It should be rapeseed oil (no space) and it's what you would call canola oil.

Does ATF go bad with time irrespective of milage?

You're generally right, although there is always a little bit of water held up in the oil, especially if there are detergents in there which can hang on to water.

Does ATF go bad with time irrespective of milage?

It depends on a number of factors: exposure to UV humidity ambient temperature absolute variability I'd guess it'll stay in shape for many years so long as it is kept well and protected from contamination.

    VW 504 5w30 ok to replace 0w30 ?

Over time specs drift. When 504.00 was launched it was 5W-30 only, then 0W-30 was added later. Any car sold in the early days will ask for 5W-30 but should be OK to also take 0W-30.

Does ATF go bad with time irrespective of milage?

Theoretically? Yes, it can 'go off' over time. Realistically? No, not in the timescales you will be facing. Oil oxidises in use and various reaction products are created which propagate and continue the oxidation process. This chain reaction can continue in an unused machine (whether it be an...

    TES-668, a great Multi-ATF?

Yes, of course. All oilco's buy from all addco's regardless of the addco ownership or heritage. The same goes for base oil supplies.

ChatGPT ranked Most important oil traits for T-GDI heavy city and idle

Nope - some of it is not right. TBN doesn't neutralise wear particles. Flash point is largely irrelevant to end users. The rest of it is basically "this test is essential because oil needs to work".

    Interesting claim by Amsoil

Here's another take on it. What if the oil needs to be formulated a certain way to get through one of the API tests. It can't be cheapened as it ony just gets through. However, a consequence of this formulation is that it knocks the IIIH out of the park. Happy days. You'll rarely find an oil...

Oil conundrum-how important is the zinc levels for the 259(?) oilhead-95 R1100 GS ?

Zinc does not deplete over time though. It goes into the engine/transmission as ZDDP and gets converted into various other molecules until it is exhausted, but is still present as a zinc species (probably zinc oxide or zinc phosphate or similar) which will still show up as "zinc" in a UOA test...

Oil conundrum-how important is the zinc levels for the 259(?) oilhead-95 R1100 GS ?

Agreed - zinc level, or ZDDP level, is never mentioned in oil selection requirements. I'd guess they specify an API, SAE and possibly JASO requirement (that's what my BMW motorcycle needs).

Whatever Happened to 20W-20 Motor Oil

Correct. BUT... there is no requirement to label with a dual grades unless the oil is viscosity modified (uses a VM of some kind to alter the VI) in which case it is required to state both parts of the SAE grade. A true monograde (unmodified) can just quote one viscosity grade, even if it would...

2024 Ford Explorer EV (Euro Only)

Ford of Europe and VW have been platform sharing for decades. This was in 1995 and these models continued for years into subsequent versions (along with the SEAT Alhambra).

What causes oil consumption to progress, further into the OCI?

This. It's why I always recommend to top up little and often, rather than wait until the level reaches "Min".

    Cardo intercom pairing issue.

I have nearly bricked two different Cardo units using their update program. The whole Cardo universe works perfectly when you've fluked it all but if it goes wrong it's a nightmare. Trying to get my bike, my Cardo, my phone and my GPS talking to each other reliably is like negotiating a peace...

Interesting FCP Euro statement on BMW 0w-20

Out of interest, how can you tell that the engine "likes it"? And how can you tell the old oil was "tired"? I'm genuinely not trying to argue but want to understand how people make such judgements about oils.

    Fiat 9.55535 GH2

No - the ACEA limits are as stated - anything less than 1.0%wt sulphated ash can not claim A3/B4 - the footnote does not change this. You'll note that the Liqui-Moly label states that this oil is "recommended for use where ACEA A3/B4 is required". It does not state that the oil meets the ACEA...
