Ford 3G Alternator Ripple Voltage High. Regulator?

Yes but not easy to get a hold of for the average DIYer. I have one of those cheapo electronic battery testers and there's a charging test mode which shows the ripple and a very simplified waveform. Not the best and the unit technically categorized the test as "pass" but the decrease in ripple...

Ford 3G Alternator Ripple Voltage High. Regulator?

I ended up replacing the alternator. I did intend on taking this apart myself and attempting to diagnose, but noticed the bearings were starting to make noise anyways and the stator contacts were getting worn in from the brushes. Got a remanufactured unit for only $120. Trying to get individual...

Ford 3G Alternator Ripple Voltage High. Regulator?

Thanks! I've already replaced the camshaft sensor and synchronizer with the Motorcraft OE. The code is intermittent and comes in/off randomly. Where did you get the 0.5VAC limit? On most vehicles they shouldnt ripple more than 0.1VAC (100 mV)

Ford 3G Alternator Ripple Voltage High. Regulator?

I have a 2008 Ford Ranger 3.0 and have been chasing down a frustrating intermittent P0340 error and I'm trying to narrow things down electrically. Apparently sometimes these can be caused by a bad alternator. I have one of those handheld battery testers and there's a charging mode test. I'm...

3.0 Ford V6 cam synchronizer tools

I just checked my alignment. Everything is setup properly with the blue tool lining up with TDC. TDC does indeed correspond to the diagram I referenced in my above post (tooth #6 points to the sensor). This is on a 2008 Ranger 3.0.

3.0 Ford V6 cam synchronizer tools

I kind of gave up on this a year ago, but you've piqued my interest again. Technically I haven't tried finding TDC using the old school way. I have a compression tester so I'll give it a go and see how that lines up with these harmonic balancer diagrams. Still doesn't answer the original...

3.0 Ford V6 cam synchronizer tools

Didn't see that one, I was dealing with this a year ago. I don't know if I agree with him, was a little difficult following him with regards to finding TDC. There's various sources that illustrate how to position the harmonic balancer to correspond to TDC. What I stated with the tooth #'s in my...

3.0 Ford V6 cam synchronizer tools

Yup. Getting to TDC was also frustrating from the various online sources. On the crank pulley, I pointed the crankshaft sensor to tooth #6. Tooth #5 lines up with the 0 degree mark on the harmonic balancer, which also points to the reference mark on the timing cover. Tooth # is the tooth on the...

3.0 Ford V6 cam synchronizer tools

Yea it was super frustrating to figure out and really annoying that I get this intermittent check engine light for P0340 camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. I've replaced the synchronizer and sensor with Motorcraft OE, as well as experimented with both positions. No luck. Maybe my...

3.0 Ford V6 cam synchronizer tools

I remember digging into this deeply when I did mine. It's been super frustrating because I have a check engine light that comes on intermittently but I've never been able to fix it completely despite trying everything with the camshaft synchronizer AND both cam/crank sensors. Note to NEVER buy...

Hyundai - oil recommendations from dealer

Yikes, I've never driven a newer Camry but the rental 2015 Optima I drove was terrible. Awful handling, ride quality, NVH, and so-so interior. Maybe the newer gen is better.

    2023? Ranger and Ranger Raptor

Isn't the payload on an F150 Raptor already really low like 800 lbs-ish? Would be curious where this fits in. I would love to have one of these after it's depreciated a bit but would ideally like to be able to fit a light camper on it. Even my old 2008 Ranger can carry 1350 lbs.

What's the flow rate like on rear calipers with motive pressure bleeder?

I'm surprised that pressure bleeding is that slow. Seems like it's about the same speed as vacuum bleeding. It's a little harder to get the right seal on the bleeders with vacuum bleeding (needs grease) but IMO using a vacuum decreases the chances of getting contaminants in the reservoir.

Anti-seize on brake pad ear slider hardware?

Permatex purple and green seem to have rumors of swelling rubber. I personally experienced Permatex purple swelling up the rubber dampers in the slide pins, so I only use Sil-Glyde on slide pins now. Even if your slide pins don't have a damper, using the wrong grease can deteriorate the rubber...

So much for using a reusable transmission pan gasket vs. new or RTV.

Could be that the rubber is starting to go bad, or an improper install. I'm still reusing the OE Ford transmission pan gasket after 4+ changes and 15 years...still works fine. RTV is superior at sealing if properly applied and it must be on a perfectly clean/dry surface. But IMO I would always...

Normal price for clutch fluid flush at dealer?

That's weird, flushing the clutch is way less time consuming than the brakes. Sometimes the brake + clutch run off the same reservoir so it makes sense to do both at the same time. It's a super easy job to DIY, only tricky part is to make sure you don't accidentally get air in the system. I'm...

Brakes bled with Motive Power Bleeder - so nice!

I've been using a handheld vacuum pump bleeder instead and find it more convenient because it doesn't need an air source nor the various reservoir cap adapters. Only disadvantage is that you sometimes need to put a bit of grease around the bleeder screws to get a good seal.

About what year did coolant hoses get good?

A lot of this industry non-sense of over exaggerating slight truths in the name of safety seems to be trickling into many areas. Eg. Tire manufacturers and the 6 year old rule. Yea, technically the grooves in a drive belt will wear out but until you're actually getting slippage (which IMO is...

    Reusing Fresh Coolant

The local junkyard takes old coolant and windshield washer fluid from their vehicles and rebottles it for $2/jug. I'm surprised people actually buy that.

    New Hyundai coolant?

2011 Genesis Coupe. The recommended coolant change interval is 5 yrs for the first and every 2 years after. I'd really like to not have to change coolant every 2 years but there's zero details at all regarding the green coolant that the dealer sells.
