This is absolutely NOT true at least when it comes to Honda's OLM. It is not simply a mileage countdown. I know this from owning many Hondas in the past as well as literature on Honda's OLM citing the parameters / metrics it uses in determining remaining oil life.

Those K24's are just the sh!t. I had one in my bought from new 2006 Accord and I got 360,00 miles out it. it was not nearly as well maintained as this example and I truly believe a million miles is doable with this engine. The lack of any varnish is quite impressive.

Locally we have an off brand name quick oil change shop that gladly takes your used oil. Although they are closed on Sundays so often I will just put my labeled jugs of used oil next to the service bay door on a Sunday afternoon. Never an issue getting rid of used oil for me.

Don't have a pic, but just bought a 5 qt. jug of VRP 5w-30 for my beater 06 Civic. When I dump it in it will be my 2nd OCI of VRP. This Civic really isn't a bad oil burner and it may leak as much as it burns. It has 170k miles on the clock and an unknown maintenance history so I'm going to run 4...

I ran this HPL PP 6k in my 2023 Type R all winter. I don't do a lot of short trips or idling so I didn't really have the strong oder of fuel , but it was noticeably dark. I'm running another OCI (7k) currently and plan on doing a UOA just to get baseline.

You would hope Honda would have a say on the design especially in light of the fact that the filter is branded with their cooperate logo.

Sometimes I feel like what oil filter to go with is the more vexing question than what oil to use? Like I said prior my inclination is just to go OEM and be done with it.

The Spoon drop in air filter for the Type R specially references using forced air to clean their filters. ( along with mild laundry detergent)

I'm with you. I have a few Ultras in my stash that I bought a while back, but I think I'm going back to OEM and changing out every OCI. ( I had been running 2-OCI with the Ultras)

I feel your pain.. We had a Soul where I meticulously performed all of the maintenance. Catastrophic engine failure @ 70K miles.

If I were to go with the 3k OCI I would be crawling underneath my car up to 9 times a year changing my oil every 5 1/2 weeks.

That engine was incredibly clean, the intake valves were carboned up a bit, but not as much as you might expect with 94k miles on a DI engine.

I'll have to show my son this report. He bought a new 23 GR86 and is so freaked out by the perceived engine issues he's been running 3500 mile OCI.

Nice report! I got 360,000 hard miles out of my 2006 Accord with the 2.4L 4-popper. It was and still is the most reliable car that I have ever owned.
