I would suggest taking a pick and probe the glue before installing to see if it's hardened or will chip off.

I heard all that loose black glue is a trade secret. It actually repairs crankshaft and connecting rod bearings when that loose black glue moves throughout your engine. It fills in any microscopic wear in your bearings.
