Inherited a new gas can! Surecan 5 gallon, with spout at the base

All of my plastic cans look like balloons in the summer and then crinkle in the winter and CRACK. I’ve been putting off buying metal. I’m either going to convert to metal cans, or mount a 15 gallon fuel cel in a shelf with some kind of failsafe valve, gravity feed lockout and use that for...

What are you working on today?

Worked on finishing the lamp for my mom. I’ll post a pic of it soon. Finally did the math on my yard size, and I’ve not been using nearly enough fertilizer or weed stuff. Also the pH is off, favoring more weeds and less grass. So I put down lime treatment and then nitrogen with the rest of my...

Firestone Destination LE - anyone have these?

The original LE was a great tire that looked like a standard blocky tread or even almost a mild AT. They wore well, tractioned well and were a solid value. The LE2 was a sturdy highway tire, we had 2 sets. The balanced and handled very well. They were average in the rain new and were done in...

    2025 Honda Pilot

Not a pilot, but I found myself behind a new passport today, and to my eye they got the lines and dimensions of that one right. Stellar looking vehicle. We’ve owned a bunch of Hondas. I’ll jump on engine reliability. I simply didn’t have engine problems with any of the ones we owned...

    Pre cut window tint

I’ve tinted several of my cars. The first one was a disaster but it was a neat color and highly effective so I stayed with it. It was a tan escort and I found a tint with metallic film that was a non-gray, kinda bronze/brown tint, and was excellent since it removed so much blue. Can’t find that...

    Toyota ... warped rotors

Hmm - thank you for your thoughts @TiGeo - I no longer have it - I did not check runout - that would have been useful. And I did try to drive in ways as to not bake the pads against the rotors at stops, graceful braking with creep room left to distribute the heat - the most aggressive pad was...

1999 Escort 5 Speed Manual Transmission

Man I had an 86, sadly pre-Mazda. It improved so much with Mazda. That said, the shift behavior in the ford ‘86 box was pretty darn good, one of the better attributes of the escort.

2025 Ram Hurricane I-6 dipstick deletion

Ford ecoboost also can’t use dipstick for oil change verification. Vehicle must sit 10 minutes before using it, it’s supposedly in a separate cavity. Drain and fill be the numbers, and go.

    Toyota ... warped rotors

Ok. Think with me here. I want your thoughts. On my gen 1 tundra, yes, new rotors, and then a whole lot of bedding, and they were good. But one month later, theres shudder. So I’d rebed again, and it would be better. This tells me that uneven pad deposits was legit. But then in a month, the...

F-150 payload and towing; within limits?

Are German cars safer than Japanese or American cars?

20 years ago hands down I would vote for Mercedes, BMW and Volvo. But now I’d take a survey from EMTs with High Consideration against NHTSA scores. Automakers design their vehicles to pass the specific tests, since that’s what they are scored against. But before the tests were the big deal, I do...

    Lets talk about new vehicles

We had pretty solid interest in the Honda version, but chickened out. We ended up (for my wife) with the Rav4H instead.

They can go ahead and strike-- I got my truck.

I borrowed one of these for a few weeks and a thousand miles years back - 1986 standard cab with the straight six and 5MT. I’d never driven a truck before. HATED giving it back. I was driving it in DC beltway traffic - the seats were great, the shifter was just right, clutch was no drama, and...

    2026 Ford Maverick Platinum

Fair thinking. You may find the convenience of having the truck bed to be /excellent/. I can’t go back to an SUV. I tried. Like you, I would at least need a trailer. But then if I’m getting wood or anything on the way home, I have to think ahead and drive the trailer all day. Which still isn’t...

    2026 Ford Maverick Platinum

Coming from the Lincoln, would you use the truck bed? It doesn’t sound like thats been a need or interest for you? Maverick hits a sweet spot for 90% of truck owners in that it does truck stuff without needing the full weight and size and cost of a full-size. That’s part of why it is so...

Is Suzuki ATF 3317 just rebranded JWS3309?

    Suzuki grand vitara ATF

We had an older vitara. It seemed to really wear the fluid based on shift quality. At around 100k I got a hold of it and replaced with Amsoil - and the difference was remarkable. Based on the 3309 and Type IV suggestions, amsoil or Maxlife synthetic ATF would both be dead ringers. @P3zhman
