    2017 Subaru Outback 2.5L & CVT

My 2012 took about 7 1/2 quarts. Drain, fill to overflow (About 5 1/2 quarts) start it and shift through the gears, and fill it again to overflow while running….About 2 additional quarts while running.

    2017 Subaru Outback 2.5L & CVT

I did a pan drop at 240k miles. My conclusion afterwards was that it was unnecessary as the pan had no sign of any buildup and wiped clean without any metal or sludge. Knowing what I know now, I would skip the pan drop and just drain and fill at 40-50k intervals. The pan didn't hold any...

2009 Acura - Dead Battery, Driver Locked Inside

Huh. Jettison canopy. So that is how you convert your car to a convertible. Too bad you can only do it once.

Four People Die Trapped in Burning Tesla

In my follow up reading, the issue is a bit more convoluted with the Ford. Same wires behind the tow hook hole, but they won’t open the frunk unless the LVB is completely dead. But it can be too low To open the hood without being low enough for jumping the wires to work. Still worth planning...

Four People Die Trapped in Burning Tesla

Thanks. A23 battery getting ordered. And jumper cables going in frunk. This EV thing requires a lot of learning. Do you know where I can find the dipstick? I haven’t been able to check the oil yet. (Just kidding.)

    2017 Subaru Outback 2.5L & CVT

I will just say this......I just passed my 2012 Outback with 287k miles on to my son and his wife. CVT (And the rest of the mechanicals of the car) still operate as new. I changed the CVT fluid every 40k miles, with Valvoline CVT fluid. I would probably have used Subaru fluid if they had not...

Four People Die Trapped in Burning Tesla

Tell me more about this "Tiny battery." I have a Mustang MME and it opens the frunk the same way when the 12vdc battery is dead.

    Shortness of breath @7000 ft.

I live at 7200'. If I spend a week at sea level it takes a couple of days to get back to normal when I come home. Your symptoms seem a bit more than that. If I were you, I would get checked out by your doctor when you get home. (I am 72).

Oil consumption After Premium Blue Restore

So it sounds like you did a standard cranking compression test. What did the various cylinders read? The simplest way to find where the cylinder is leaking (Valves, rings or {Shudder} head gasket) is to apply air pressure as in a leak down test and listen at the tailpipe, oil fill and the...

Logically the canopies should be solar panels.

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Combining an engine cleaner with a motor oil that runs full OCIs makes it unique….So far.

    Subaru or Mazda?

The only time this was an issue for me was early this year when I had a punctured a sidewall. The Michelins had 55k on them which impressed me because they still had 1/3rd of their tread. But I bit gritted my teeth and bought 3 new ones. Costco replaced the punctured one.

    Subaru or Mazda?

There was a time not long ago that Mazdas were very easy to steal. I have no idea if that has been addressed but it may account for the higher rates you paid.

    Subaru or Mazda?

I just passed my 2012 Outback to my son. 287k and it runs like new. Since new I probably spent less than $500 on actual repairs, to include a new MAF sensor and a $200 sensor for the transmission (Looked like a fancy oil pressure sensor and was leaking through the wires). I was anal about...

How often does a tanker truck crossdrop a load?

As we know, combustion in a cylinder needs a nearly stoichiometric mixture. But any mixture will blow up your garage.

How often does a tanker truck crossdrop a load?

My “Why didn’t it blow us all to Hell?” Story is from an airport. 100 degree day, I am at the fuel island gassing up. The sound of an airplane engine firing up with an open throttle is followed almost instantly by the sound of mechanical carnage. The fuel attendant and I both run in the...

Overhead a woman telling another woman her dream job is a Stay At Home Mom

When my kids were pre-School age, my wife did daycare. It didn’t pay a lot back then, but we probably netted more in tax savings than the income. It was great socialization for our kids as well.
