    The $100 car

I wrote about this a few moons ago. I have bought probably a dozen or so that were in that range. Here's three articles. I turmed one $100 car into a $5000 donation not too long ago.

10 year old / 21k mile car with 3 verified oil changes

Engine Oil: 4.2qt : Good choice Engine Oil Filter (15400-RTA-003) $7 - Good Choice Transmission Fluid: ATF DW1 - 2.64 qts (3qts * 3): $90 - Valvoline MaxLife is absolutely fine and I would wait until at least 30k miles. Engine Coolant: 1.64 gal (2 gal): $37 - Walmart Blue is fine Brake...

$10 Billion Down The Drain - The Cruise Is Sunk

Now that Cruise is sunk and GM has seen a solid $10 billion go down the drain, what future can GM conjure up for their shareholders? Will they be able to increase market share in the EV space? Is it even possible given GM's severe cost disadvantage? I hope the organization succeeds. But I...

    Used Hyundai

I'm pretty well known here for my study on long-term reliability and my car buying service. Unless she's about 200 miles or less from Atlanta though, I wouldn't be able to serve her given the $10k budget. Nearly everything I buy that isn't local is $15k and up. My advice? Buy the lowest mileage...

How to interpret these test results?

Just an FYI... Love you getting the most out of your battery but just in case you decide to move on here's what helps me with these types of garage queens. Advance Auto Parts often has 'seconds' that they call used batteries in their back shelf. They are only around $40. You won't see them in...

Gift for 8 year old boy

Football, kickball, basketball, baseball glove. If they're into baseball and already have the ball and glove, get them baseball cards.

    Help Finding a Replacement!

Great car. Unless there were major blemishes that unit would likely get you a check between $10k to $12k. There's a few interesting possibilities at that price range. First, you can get a 2014 to 2015 Toyota Corolla L with around 60k miles on it. The L model has the most reliable powertrain of...

    Chi-Chi's Restaurants coming back

My hats off to anyone who enters the brutally challenging casual market segment. Especially in the Tex-Mex niche. It's like a legacy automaker competing against Tesla. You're bound to lose money for a long while no matter what. I hope they do well. No idea how they're going to outperform...

    2013 Mazda2 w/ 5-speed MT?

They are fun with a manual but you have to go through the ownership history as thoroughly as a Hasidic Jew studies the Talmud.

    Whats your best driving tip?

Drive at or slightly slower than the flow of traffic. The goal is to make you aware of those who are driving erratically so that you avoid them. Also if it's red or a stop sign... coast. It's not only better for your MPGs and brakes, but it also lets you better negotiate the dangers in that...

Can we expect to see more salvage/rebuilt used cars in the future?

It does get the data updated, although that page sometimes doesn't register it for some strange programming oriented reason. We do have about 5 million vehicles in the database now.

Price difference between regular and premium?

For starters, a Chevrolet Corvette does take 87. I'm sure there are plenty of others.

Price difference between regular and premium?

If it weren't for operating a car dealership, I would never buy a vehicle requiring premium gas because the price difference is ridiculous. Plenty of perfectly good vehicles that take regular. Plenty that go past 300,000 miles as well.

Can we expect to see more salvage/rebuilt used cars in the future?

No. Just fewer rebuilt here in the USA.

Does it really make financial sense to buy used over new?

See? If you had contacted me I would have talked you out of it. You would have been rocking a Lexus instead. So many Kia and Hyundai lawsuits these days!

Can we expect to see more salvage/rebuilt used cars in the future?

There will be fewer rebuilt vehicles sold in the United States because the costs of rebuilding a modern car has gone up dramatically due to the high cost of replacing safety systems, technological features, and electronics. What you're seeing now are the tail end of the less expensive vehicles...

Does it really make financial sense to buy used over new?

Extreme and unequal examples will always yield extreme and unequal results. I have a 1994 Toyota Camry that I bought new which is still on the road 30 years later with over 400,000 miles on it. I also bought a then nine year old Subaru for less than $100 that stayed on the road for the next...

Used Car - Thoughts on Undercarriage? - PICS

The link below is my car buying service. A lot of BITOG folks have bought vehicles from my dealership and you figure out online, through the wholesale auctions, as to what you actually want. No need to fly down. The vehicle gets delivered directly to your door. My biggest customer from New York...

What era of cars has the right amount of tech - helpful but not distracting?

Here's the thing. What's good for this goose is not always good for the gander. I'm with the crowd that appreciates the 1996 - 2012-ish time period. My daughter has an 07 CR-V. My son has an 07 Fusion , and my future son-in-law is getting the 2012 model. They all have front, side and overhead...
