No, Synthetic oil does not have any detrimental effect on modern engines (last 20 yrs). That’s from a manufacturer....

B&S was using synthetic oil during the assembly line test runs twenty years ago when I worked there.

Next time you change your oil, empty the sump completely. Then open the cartridge housing and see if any more drains into the sump.
