What are you working on today?

Down for several days with a severe cold (or COVID? Not sure). So I lost that time for repairs on a couple cars in my list of stuff to do, and what’s worse is that we had warm weather during that time. Today I’m having new tires put on my niece’s van after she has the alignment done. Easing...

Anyone ever heard of a scam like this?

Interesting… I’m selling two cars now, and I don’t allow anyone time alone with the car, nor permit them to distract me in the way the guy in the video did. I let the buyer look it over, but they’re not allowed to be under the hood without me watching them. Just common sense. Kind of like the...

Mann, Mahle/Clevite, Hengst, Bosch Premium, or Wix? ... Motorcraft is an option too.

Your Jag will be safe with any of those selections… the first 3 are absolutely fine for your application.

When do you install your winter tires?

Mid-November, the winter tires go on the cars that have separate sets (I put each set on its own wheels so I can swap them around; winter tires go on steel wheels when they’re available). They come off in April usually. Before then is when I evaluate whether the all season tires need replacing.

Grand Marquis Ls 98 wiper motor

Just saw this, and having owned several Panther platforms, the motor is always suspect. It sits in a well drenched in water (or in one case, solid ice!) and gets damaged easily. I’ve not had a switch stalk fail on me though.🧐 Of course you know this already 😜 Lube up those linkages while it’s...

What are you working on today?

Changed out the oil on my Mini Sunday afternoon, and swapped out a possibly defective VVT solenoid. Idle was a bit lumpy and uneven, and checking the usual suspects yielded nothing. No vacuum leaks, fuel pressure was where it needed to be consistently, until I checked the oil. Nasty, filthy...

Matco 1/2" ratchet: rubber vs metal handle

When I have a choice I opt for soft grip handles on my ratchets. I’ve not tried the ratchets with handles that are hard (I think Snap-on has that option). I do have ratchets without soft grip or any additional handle that are fine but I tend to reach for the soft grip first. As for the breaker...

    Turbo Cooldown

My Mini Cooper S turbo is water cooled and I usually give it a minute after a long drive back to just let oil and coolant circulate. When it was on full boil, the car has a feature that continues to run coolant through the turbo after shutdown. I’ve heard it running a few times after I’ve...

Durango oil filter/cooler housing leaking again :-(

Good plan… they will be out and easy to swap. Pull out and press in.

What are you working on today?

Picked up a cheap 2008 Chrysler Town & Country minivan for my niece to use with her baby son and boyfriend. She was using my Grand Marquis, but it was a bit crowded in there with that big kid’s baby seat. (I swear that kid’s going to be a big, big dude when he’s grown!) The T&C needed some...

Durango oil filter/cooler housing leaking again :-(

I’ve done this job three times now, and I can have the old one off and the new one in in about two hours. Because I’m taking my time and torquing fasteners carefully (those small E-torx fasteners can strip very easily). I replaced the older oil filter cooler housing on a 2011 with the newer...

Hit a deer on the way to work

Seeing this, and the fact that here in Minnesota deer season kicked off in full Saturday, I can relate. Except mine was a close call vs a strike. I’m selling my Mini Cooper S, and was on my way to show it to a prospective buyer. I turned onto a straightaway county road and spooled it up to get...

What are you working on today?

Major service to the Mini. New timing set installed. Watched a couple of videos on replacement, ordered in all of what I’d need and got started. Crank seal I got in my RockAuto order was a rear main seal, but NAPA had one next day. So I took an overnight break and got it the next morning...

Took my 2020 Bimmer to the dealer for an oil change…

Nice to have that warranty, and a wise choice on a used BMW. Back when I had one, my dealer would always put me in a brand new loaner. They even allowed me to use it on a kind of long road trip of about 500 miles so long as it came back with a full tank like it went out with. BMW dealers do...

What are you working on today?

Installed an aluminum oil filter housing and cooler in my niece’s Grand Caravan. Home stretch before she can use it. I want it to be functionally near perfection since she carts my youngest nephew around in it. I have done this enough that it’s muscle memory now, and I had it in place by...

3.6 pentastar as bad as it seems ???

Go ahead and get it if you like, Original Poster. We have 5 Pentastars in our family group of cars: 3 Jeep Wranglers (2 JKs and my JL), my sister-in-law with her Town & Country, and now my niece with her Grand Caravan. None of them tick. They all operate just fine. No one is “running away” from...

Can you unbend a bent knuckle?

Get a new or good salvage part. If it bent and got bent back, now it’s got a potential failure point. You won’t want to trust that going forward.

What are you working on today?

I’ve been pretty busy with the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan I picked up for my niece. Whoever worked on this before should never, ever, pick up a wrench again. The lug nuts were over tightened and rounded off, and the front right wheel had only three nuts on it. My torch, removal tools, and even my...

Do you have a favorite fuel?

She’ll, because I have their app and I get a minimum of 10 cents per gallon off per fill. I have T-mobile as my wireless carrier and they offer a special on Tuesdays (through their promotion app) where I can get an additional 10 cents per gallon off for a few days afterward, so I tend to grab...

Vehicle Sighting - mid-'80s Buick Le Sabre

I remember that whole controversy too… It was made out like a big scandal back then. 🫣 Routine stuff now. 😎
