What are you working on today?

Brand new check valve on the sump pump snapped during a rain storm. Fortunately, I was home and heard the 15 gallons of water being pumped onto my basement floor instead of outside. A full minute before the Ring water alarm went off. The plastic male adapter snapped below the valve. Automotive...

    Motorcraft Spark Plugs

I have a Taurus with the same engine. I replaced my plugs a few months ago and went through the same kind of thing. Ford has updated part numbers for the plugs on a lot of their engines but, from what the parts guy at the dealership told me, they are basically identical and only had to do with...

    Post your latest oil change

2014 Ford Escape 2.0L EcoBoost 160,638 miles on the clock. 4,780 miles on the oil. Usually go 6K but I changed it early due to some other work that needed to be done. Out: Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, FRAM TG3614 In: Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, FRAM TG3614

What are you working on today?

From yesterday: 1. Changed the oil in my wife's '14 Escape (2.0L TGDI) - Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, FRAM TG3614 2. Changed the coolant in my '16 Taurus (3.5L NA) - converted from Motorcraft Orange to Motorcraft Yellow

    2015 Ford Transit 250, Duratec 3.7L V6 - Castrol GTX Ultraclean 5w-20 - 6,031 miles

Misfire was caused by a bad coil pack. The #4 and #6 cylinders were both misfiring when they looked at it. Replacing all 6 of them, plus it's due for plugs anyway so they're doing that too. Should be good to go tomorrow.

    2015 Ford Transit 250, Duratec 3.7L V6 - Castrol GTX Ultraclean 5w-20 - 6,031 miles

I'll try to remember to post it when I find out. Might be a bit though. Shops around here are super backed up.

    2015 Ford Transit 250, Duratec 3.7L V6 - Castrol GTX Ultraclean 5w-20 - 6,031 miles

I was also thinking an injector issue. I highly doubt it's something internal to the engine. And we can't find new ones anywhere within 100 miles. We have had two transmissions that needed the torque converter clutch replaced at around 50K miles (both under warranty). All of them have had the...

    2015 Ford Transit 250, Duratec 3.7L V6 - Castrol GTX Ultraclean 5w-20 - 6,031 miles

Most recent UOA from one of the fleet Transit 250s. Looks pretty good to me. What do you think? Funny enough, though, just this morning this engine developed a misfire on the #4 cylinder. It's pulled from service an it'll be going to the shop next week.

Wish Repair Shops Would Listen Better

The reason the outcome is usually unfavorable to the business (in cases like this hypothetical) is that the burden on the plaintiff is only a preponderance of evidence (more than 50% in weight of their complaint). It is just not worth the hassle to acquiesce to customer requests like the OP's...

Why 10K Miles Oil change may not be good!

No you didn't. The context of the conversation is very clear. You were in the middle of an argument where your position was, to roughly paraphrase here, 20K mile OCIs are bad for an engine and not as good as 10K mile OCIs, and then you posted that picture with a challenge to the other side of...

Wish Repair Shops Would Listen Better

I have a small business that has a retail division and a service division. We perform service in a client's home instead of a shop, but it works exactly as it does for businesses that bring stuff into a shop. I can tell you that we absolutely never deviate from manufacturer specifications, and...

Why 10K Miles Oil change may not be good!

Have you ever heard of a hobby? It's a hobby, guy. My question is, why are you so insecure about your own practices that you feel the need to convince someone else that they need to be insecure about theirs? You're going a little hard on this, don't you think?

    Oil for 3.5 Ecoboost ?

I had a '17 F150 with the 3.5L EB. I did the first change around 1K with every other change after that at around 6-7K mile intervals. I ran it to around 80K miles without any issues with anything. Motorcraft Synthetic Blend was always out of grade by 5K miles. I seemed to get pretty good results...

    2014 Ford Escape 2.0L EcoBoost - Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5w-30 - 6K miles

I'm not sure if it would or not. But, as it so happens, I am typically taking the sample as it would be parked after a commute anyway. That's just how it usually works out.

    2014 Ford Escape 2.0L EcoBoost - Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5w-30 - 6K miles

Yes, this is the same vehicle with the consumption. I have not needed to top this engine off between OCIs at this point. It's actually averaging around .5qts between changes now. At one point it was .75qts but it seems to have improved since I changed out the spark plugs. Don't know if it's...

    2014 Ford Escape 2.0L EcoBoost - Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5w-30 - 6K miles

I never change the oil cold, especially if I'm doing a UOA. The engine was driven around 28 miles at 60 - 70mph before the sample was taken. I'm also careful not to go WOT during a trip before a UOA. Just nice steady revs. I think my luck with this engine is a combination of 90% highway miles...

Wish Repair Shops Would Listen Better

There is one major part of this story missing. What was the response when the OP said, "look, I know this car, it LIKES 15w-40, put that in after you do the service, thank you". The story jumps from that to getting the car back home. The integrity of the shop weighs entirely on what that...
