Sharing some shearing test results about Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30...

I only worry about brand new engines where we don’t know if there’s any coating compatibility issues or if these oils pass things like the Valvetronic test. I’m sure it’s fine and agree with you, but I’d love to not have to use it “off-label” under warranty. I can’t in good conscience recommend...

C40 GT seems to have similar so not sure if that’s the reason but yes for sure they are all up there.

    2023 BRZ (FA24); Redline 0W-40 vs Mobil 1 0W-40

If you don’t mind the price I think ESP X4 is better than the FS these days, however, all will be suitable for you.

    DIYDETAIL Rinseless Wash Impression

That guy is full of it I think. He has some good tests and is right to examine things critically, but he is also not a toxicologist or a chemist that I know of. The harsh chemical he complains about is SL(E)S which is in your hair shampoo and toothpaste. It's just a surfactant. He's...

Sharing some shearing test results about Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30...

This is why I use ESP X3/X4 in non BMWs. I feel like it’s their flagship product now. Would really like if this oil and the 0W-30 got some sort of BMW approval. BMW - harmonize your stupid oxidation requirements.

    DIYDETAIL Rinseless Wash Impression

Yes, you are right, it keeps the wash media cleaner because it holds the dirt in suspension / emulsion like a motor oil actually. For me, I will only use a surfactant rinseless like DIY or N914 if doing a one bucket and one sponge method. Absolute and ONR leave too much dirt on the wash media.

PUP's fall from grace over the last 10 years?

At the end of the day since both Shell and Mobil source additive packages from Infineum who they co-own, I’m not sure you’re getting anything all that different from either one except one or two products that may be “first” to get something. What proportion the base oil is PAO, GTL, VHVI, etc...

PUP's fall from grace over the last 10 years?

Yes, GTL can have lower volatility, however as Overkill points out, it varies and you have to compare individual products. Overall, GTL came to market as an attempt to cost reduce due to an abundance of cheap natural gas. If PAO were cheaper it wouldn’t exist.

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

I run 3.8 HTHS in my Mazda 3 2.5 filled with 5W-20 from factory. I’m sure you are 100% fine in a BMW M5x designed for 3.5 HTHS oils.

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Nope, it does not make sense unfortunately 😂.

    Ceramic coat worth the squeeze?

IMO it is worth it if you are DIYing it or paying a reasonable price. The prep is a pain in the ass though. It really comes down to if you want to waste several hours at once or just keep reapplying a product and your comfort level.

LSJr ... Talking Engine Oils of the Future

Not all forms of ZDDP and moly attack DLC the same and not all DLC are created equal as well, so it's complicated and probably requires case-by-base validation and why the C40 GT specification was necessitated in the first place.

    API SQ Coming Soon...

You do realize it’s almost the same viscosity since you’re comparing a 3.5 HTHS oil to a 3.6 HTHS oil, right? Not saying you need to switch as the ESP 0W-30 is excellent, but the gap between Euro 30 and 40 is small.

    API SQ Coming Soon...

I’ve heard it’s minor also from others. Witness M1 FS 0W-40 showing up with it after being one of the last oils to have SP. Probably already exceeded all requirements.

M1 FS/EURO 0W-40 vs Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40 - which would you run?

True, but you can see many results where FS comes out at around 11.9 and ESP X3/X4 come out closer to 13. Of course, FS must pass "stay in grade" but it seems like a C student 😂. Maybe it's a B student considering Castrol Edge 5W-40 loses even more. Obviously this is not a scientific test...

Interesting comparison between LEV and EV

Claude tried to tell me that 0W-40 was going to damage my Mazda 3 2.5. Then when challenged on the basis for that reasoning will reverse course. Aside from often being wrong, you can essentially guide any of these LLMs to whatever conclusion you wish it to reach if the topics you are asking...

    Mobil 1 ESP X4 0W-40

There is almost no observable difference. Speculation is that it is for compatibility with certain coatings that may be used in the GT engines.

M1 FS/EURO 0W-40 vs Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40 - which would you run?

I agree and doubt it’s because of fuel economy alone. ESP X3 and X4 hold viscosity better and are under the same pressure for CAFE, although perhaps 911 oils are less sensitive due to lower sales volume offset by 0W-20 Macans. If anything the choice of VM is probably down to cost in FS which...

M1 Volatility - multiple vis products

Well the oil they recommend is less robust in all ways than the ESP 5W-30 most likely. There are many engines that make that power density or higher using all sorts of oils.
