What would your second oil choice if Mobil 1 EP not available at the time you need ?

Castro Edge EP (Gold) at $26 for the 5 quart jug at WM (currently on Rollback) is a screaming deal at the moment IMO. It's rated for 25K OCI which I would never do.

Question on 'flushing' an AC system?

I'm not knowledgeable enough to get deep into why the compressor won't 'kick on'. I do believe the system is full and I tried to 'jump' the compressor with a paper clip at the pressure switch with no luck. At this point I'm going to replace the parts that I've already purchased and hope for...

Question on 'flushing' an AC system?

I tried pushing the clutch in manually and I also tried jumping the 'pressure switch' ....both to no avail. I purchased all the parts for about the same price (or less) that a shop would charge for much less (less than $350). I don't mind replacing parts on a 17 year old system as long as I...

Question on 'flushing' an AC system?

A few years ago I replaced a condenser on a different Hyundai that my (other) daughter crashed and all went. I got the vacuum, gauges etc...from the AZ "loaner tool' program. This experience gave me the 'testicular fortitude' to attempt this job. I've read that doing the job without 'flushing...

Question on 'flushing' an AC system?

We acquired a 2008 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 4 cyl. from a family member with 145K for my daughter. It runs great, burns no oil and I've done the maintenance since my family member acquired it at 56K.(oil, AF, ATF, filters, spark plugs etc...) I now see that the AC system is blowing warm even though it...

    New Ruger GP100 357 6" stainless

How does this Ruger compare to a Colt Python? When I was an LEO for a short time over 30 years ago my buddy paid about $700 hundred for a new Python with a 4" barrel. I settled for a used S&W Model 10 for a whole lot less . He raved about the trigger on the Python but I couldn't justify paying...

Good point but I still don't think Idemitsu oil is worth paying more for than PP, M1, QS etc...

    Idemitsu

I'm wondering if because of the 'Shaken Process' (mandatory extensive car inspections in Japan which often make replacing a vehicle more cost effective than fixing it), if engine longevity is less important to Japanese oil blenders? Just a thought. I did buy some Idemitsu 0w20 when AA put it on...

Walmart Supertech price point for 0w-40

Yes...they eventually lowered those initial high prices (raised when W-H bought out Warren) considerably.... most likely due to lack of sales. I'm betting the same happens with this 0w40.

Supertech 0w-40 5qt exists? But isn't for sale or at least yet?

I seen this ST 0w40 in my local WM yesterday. I agree on the price point. If it was $19 like the rest of the 10K ST synthetics it would be a good deal but not at $27. Pritzker initially priced the ST synthetics very high when they bought out WPP and eventually reduced them most likely due to...

    What's everyone's favorite 0w-20 these days?

I got a few of those Edge EP 0w20's (the gold 20K OCI version) on 'Clearance' as well. What OCI are you running it? I'm wondering if the latest 25K version has changed or was the older 20K version good enough to extend the recommendation. I'll probably run it in our Mazda CX-30 for 8K or...

    What's everyone's favorite 0w-20 these days?

I'm surprised that Castrol Edge gold hasn't been mentioned (although Wemay did list it in post #79). It claims 25K OCIs are doable and at the current Rollback price of $25.97 at WM seems to be a bargain.

Outside of extended OCIs with ideal usage (all highway), what is the use case for boutique oils?

A well designed engine (which some aren't) can last a few hundred thousand miles on most store bought oils so I see no reason to spend big money on boutique oils. The most expensive oils I could see buying are Mobil 1 EP or Castrol EP (gold jug). If I did splurge for one of those I'd want to...

GM now saying to use 0w40 in 21-24 6.2L

If I were buying a new vehicle right now it would probably be a Mazda, Subaru or Toyota.

GM now saying to use 0w40 in 21-24 6.2L

Exactly my thoughts. Another reason I won't be buying another GM (or any 'domestic') anytime soon.

    2016 Mazda 3 - Transmission fluid change

It's good to hear that using Maxlife hasn't caused any issues so far. When I did a D&R on my daughters 2021 CX-30 I used Aisin's version of FZ fluid which is blue like the FZ fluid. Some have said that Mazda will deny warranty if they find red fluid in the A/T which was a factor for me but not...

Mazda Hypoid Gear Oil SG1 75w-85

I've drained the FF in the differential and transfer case on our 2021 CX-30 and refilled them with Royal Purple 75w90. The RP claims to be good for both GL4 and GL5 (I assume they mean it's 'yellow metal safe'.) The RP seems to be working fine.

Premium Guard TSB on website for Hyundai / Kia for PG4459

I've used virtually every aftermarket filter as well as OE ones on our 2008 Elantra and never had an issue....the same on my in-laws Hyundais and Kias. Maybe I was just lucky.

Can I use PUP in a new C8?

Sorry to bump an older post but I met a guy in Walmart in Florida last month who was buying up QS 5w40 Europe for his C8. I looked on the Pennzoil website and they make no recommendation for that 6.2 Chevy....Mobil recommends the 0w40 'Supercar'. Is this guy being foolish or would the QS 5w40...
