Single axle trailer loading weight distribution

I tow a small 10x5-ish utility trailer with my '07 Pacifica a few times a year, a "real" trailer (not some harbor freight junk) w/ 15" wheels that I borrow from a friend. Obviously nothing super heavy, but I'm sure there's been a few loads that approached 2-3K w/ trailer, no issues. The...

Anything wrong with 2016-2019ish Subaru WRX?

Very good point. This a purchase that can take as long as it needs to. Any evidence of mods, it would be a hard pass. I don't care if it's just a drop in K&N. Fortunately with car prices they way they are, you can weed out most of the riff-raff by buying 1 owner. Someone buying a new car...

Anything wrong with 2016-2019ish Subaru WRX?

My wife has always loved her minivans, but she's growing tired of it. They've served their purpose when our 4 kids were little, but the two oldest are driving now so she's usually the only one in it or with just one or two passengers. Anytime we have people over and want to go out, she (or I)...

    Mid life crisis car; Pacifica

Very few. But be prepared for the onslaught of "free market, people can do what they want" comments. Those are the same people complaining in the work break room that they have no money, paycheck doesn't go far enough, "can you spot me a $20 till next payday." Their pickup is pretty sweet though.

    Post your odometer reading

As listed in my signature. Since owning them, the two w/ DI engine have received nothing but full-synthetic, various brands which is dependent on what is the best deal at the time. The two older ones, I've used Synthetic 75% of the time, the other 25% was semi-syn or "dino" if there was a deal...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

There was no way the mower hood would clear that long/tall snout that the "commercial" Briggs engine has-- aka cyclonic air filter. I anticipated that going in. I could have avoided that by going with the "residential" engine which has a flat air filter cover and no oil cooler but I took my...

    Right Hand Drive Cars

I rented a car about a decade ago in the Bahamas where they drive on the "wrong" side of the road. What made it interesting was the Chinese imported "Cherry QQ" they gave me as a "compact" was configured for US driving, I sat in the left seat. I got the postal worker experience but also...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

I consider this a finished project (except hood install). My initial wiring was wrong and missing a couple key diodes which caused the engine not to start and had the side effect of disabling some safety features. Everything works as it should now. Hoping all the white around here turns to...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

Fired up engine for the first time. Engine would not start for the life of me on the initial try. Verified fuel as best I could (wet plug), spark, compression. However, a shot of starting fluid into the intake got it going immediately. Engine will run all day long-- I tested throttle, PTO...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

I'll be darned if that didn't fit it perfectly. The $6 Chinesium connector (it came in a pack of 3 for that price!) doesn't look nearly as durable of plastic / metal pins as the OEM briggs that mates with it; I'll have to keep an eye out for hot/yellowing plastic on that end but at least I know...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

Exhaust was not a problem at all. I cut the two tubes off the muffler, bolted them to engine then compared where they met with the muffler afterwards; not far off. I had to tweak the tubes a little which is easy to do. Cut 3/4 of the way through, bend it where you want it, then weld it all...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

According to tractordata.com (pretty reliable) the mower should have had a 624cc Kohler V-twin rated at 18hp when it was built. When I purchased it in 2018-ish, it seems someone had transplanted a Kohler 23hp (~700 cc) V-twin in it. The stickers were faded so I couldn't pinpoint a serial...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

Progress! The engine fits just fine except I'm going to have to cut the hood and install a scoop to clear the tall air "cyclonic" filter present on this Briggs engine. Hood won't clear it. Electrical seems easy enough, need to find a 6-pin connector that will mate with engine harness so I can...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

You'd be right, I think I have this figured out after some google searching on Briggs & Stratton wire colors. The violet wire from my mower (enabled by keyswitch) would go to GREY on the B&S engine to activate the fuel solenoid. White wire on mower is essentially the kill wire (fed through...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

Found the wiring diagram for the mower, doesn't look too complicated. I'll have to fasten the green wire to ground as the new engine doesn't have an oil pressure sensor. Red is obviously 12V+, blue to the new starter solenoid (not equipped w/ new engine), violet appears to power the fuel...

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

New engine arrived. From what I can tell, three wires is all this engine needs to run. One wire is jumped to another position at the connector, which looks nothing like the mower connector. At the voltage regulator, one of the red wires has a quick connect which suggests it may be needed in...

    2020 Silverado 6.6L Duramax 3500 HD Review

Yep, can't be compared to an automatic. My old '85 F-250 w/ 460 & 4 speed manual was essentially a 3 speed in normal driving.

Re-engine project Toro Wheehorse 268H, V-Twin Kohler to Briggs

Same as the last one-- Pull a knob up and down, moves cable which in turn moves throttle. Briggs is single control throttle/choke which will be a PIA. Throttle placement / engine dimensions are very similar, that's the least of my worries. I'm more concerned with exhaust / electrical.
