Smoke on cold start after adding Techron Complete (USA) - Audi CREC 3.0

The Techron is added to the gas tank. It should only directly affect components of the fuel system. I never noticed a chemical smell whenever I used it, but I just poured in the small bottle. Maybe you have a higher concentration in your gas than I had. It's going to burn and come out the...

    Metal Tank and Seasonal Storage

I store my lawnmower in the shed with a full tank. My generators are stores in my attached garage with empty tanks. My reasoning is that the shed has large temperature swings and the change in pressure in the tank will cause air to siphon in and out. If the tank is full, there is little room...

PRI-G/D vs Archoil - means of preserving and differences

I used PRI-G for a number of years, then switched to Marine Stabil 360 due to Stabil is on the shelf at local stores and easier to get. I didn't have any problems with PRI-G. All my engines started fine after storage. If I remember correctly, PRI claims to be able to "restore" old gas and old...

    Anybody run the octane numbers?

This is basically what I have read on multiple forums. Some cars get a small % increase in MPG running premium, but the cost difference is much greater. I haven't heard of much of an increase using mid-grade over regular gas. I ran mid-grade in my motorcycle that called for premium and it ran...

    2001 RAV4 108,000 miles; maintenance priorities?

I'd start with the fluids and whatever is needed to make it safe. Inspect the brakes (pads, rotors, etc) brake lines. I've had rusty brake lines pop before. Everything else can be scheduled at your convenience.

FRAM DOUBLE GUARD: anyone remember these?

I'd pass on the Teflon. If Teflon belonged in the engine, all the major oil companies would use it.

Oil changing questions I should have known by now but don't

    1. You just get a sense of how much oil it takes to top off your car. For example, if the oil is halfway between min and max. Take a mental note of how much oil it takes to top it off to the full mark. Then, when it's time to change the oil, check it again and just make an estimate of the...

    Use 0W-30 instead of 10W-30.

There's no benefit using a 0W-30 in a scooter unless you are starting it in freezing weather. Would 0W-30 work in a scooter? Sure, it would probably work ok. My first choice would be a quality 10W-30.

    2.5L Rav4 oil change impressions

I use ramps under the front wheels with my 2024 Rav4. Drain plug and oil filter are easy to access. Pretty easy oil change for me. There isn't a lot of room at the end of the filter, so I put the filter wrench/socket on the filter, then I snap on the ratchet and break the filter loose. I take...

    multiple break-in oil changes

I think that once the bits are caught in between the filter pleats, it is unlikely that they would come loose during filter bypass. The bigger question is how many of these bits flow through bypass before getting caught in the filter pleats?

    multiple break-in oil changes

Motorcycles really shed a lot of metallic particles during break in. Change early and often during break in.

    90915-YZZN1 toyota filter

Well, Toyota specs 10,000 mile oil changes, so it should last. I change mine every 5K in my 24 Rav4. It's right there next to the oil plug, so no big deal to change it while I'm draining the oil. The oil really isn't very dark after 5K miles, so I'm probably wasting money changing the filter...

    multiple break-in oil changes

I do an early oil change on my vehicles. On cars/trucks, I usually do an initial 500-1000 mile oil and filter change, then every 5K after that. My motorcycles, I'll do a 100 mile change, 500 mile change, and then regular changes based on mileage or before long trips. For that first change...

What additives in gasoline ruin the rubber parts?

I use fuel stabilizer and add 1oz of TCW3 2-cycle oil to a 5 gallon can of pump gas. I use this year round in my OPE engines and generator. Drain the gas tank and run the carburetors dry before storage and it leaves a thin oil film on everything to prevent corrosion and drying out of hoses and...

What additives in gasoline ruin the rubber parts?

I haven't had any problems with pump gas. As long as I do my part to winterize my equipment, they always start in the spring. I've had the clear type fuel line harden up on two-cycle weed trimmers, but other than that, 15 or more years out of a rubber fuel line on mowers, motorcycles and...

RED LINE 10W30 MOTORCYCLE OIL Fake or real one ?

MA2 is not a new version of MA. MA is a big category that is divided into two subset categories: MA1 and MA2. All oils that meet the MA2 standard also meet MA, so many companies mark the bottles with MA/MA2.

RED LINE 10W30 MOTORCYCLE OIL Fake or real one ?

JASO MA is fine. Many motorcycle oils are marked as either MA or MA/MA2 and both are ok. I believe Honda's GN4 oil is marked as MA on the bottle.
