I'll make a guess. Walmart did volume deals based on the most popular viscosities, and just took the standard pricing on Warren's other viscosities because they weren't high volume sales oils. Now GM made them high volume and Walmart has to do new deals for those.

As a teen, I worked at Texaco full service station, and owned gm 350's in the '70's, those engines on Havoline 10-40 were the GOAT, they never failed.

Well, they have already walked back the 0W40 idea in the version 3 of the tech bulletin. That said, based on the damage vids, 0w40 would probably buy them a few months on some of those engines. Right now, a GM dealer can't sell any of those vehicles and would likely not take them on trade. So...

I think the 5w40 Euro oils give the same performance at high temps and better and low temps. Just look at the 100 C specs.

I don't believe this. I can see this is true with conventional oil vs synthetics, but not any full synthetic that meets SP and ILSAC 6. What is this mystery ingredient that cheaper oils do not contain?

Supertech/Kirkland vs Mobil 1? What is your source for this? The VOA is very similar.

I would do 3k oil change interval with a lower cost oil like Kirkland or Supertech. Low mileage intervals don't require the ultimate oil. Any your engine stays cleaner.

Havoline is higher detergent oil. If your OCI was reasonable, I would bet you have no sludge. Have you pulled a valve cover?
