Who does root canals these days?

I guess Endodontists specialize in root canals but I've had a bunch from my regular dentists over the years. I clench my teeth at night (and during the day, it turns out) and started to get pain in high school. I'm 46 now and have had quite a number of root canals and crowns...maybe it's just...

Goodbye ‘93 Tercel - Thanks for your service!

I did tell him I’d be happy to help with oil changes and repairs if he ever need it. Perhaps I’ll see it again some day 😇 Also, this thing could make it to 400k with no fixes. It’s a tough car!

How Thin Oil's Kill Your Engine, the Magic Mechanic Show

Anyone who uses thinner than 5w40 should probably get a quote for a new long block from their dealer - failure is inevitable!! 🤪😁

Goodbye ‘93 Tercel - Thanks for your service!

My friend’s family car when we turned 16 was an 87 Tercel hatchback. We drove it everywhere and it received much abuse but kept going forever. We managed to pile 16 people into it at school and drive it around the block 🤪

Goodbye ‘93 Tercel - Thanks for your service!

4WD Tercel would have been a good choice! I used to see lots of those in my area but they seem to be gone now. It’s been a few years since I spotted a 4WD on the road.

Goodbye ‘93 Tercel - Thanks for your service!

A sad day here…the end of an era! I bought my 93 Tercel for $3k in January 2007, knowing it had been neglected. The following month, I rebuilt the engine myself and had a local shop rebuild the transmission. I suspect I could have just done the valve stem seals and some drain and fills on the...

There is nothing like a Rolling Stones concert

I wish I went to the show in Vancouver. I did see them in ‘94 at BC Place, which was a great show. Richards has always been my favourite Stone. I see they played Far Away Eyes…I would have gone crazy. Great song…

Speak or keep quiet- when lead on hiring panel has wrong resume in front of him on a Teams video interview

Another side to this is that it’s good to see how people you might work with would react to their mistake rightly being corrected. I think most people I’ve worked with would gracefully accept they were wrong, apologize, and carry on. A poor reaction wouldn’t be a good sign….

    Purchased a 2011 Nissan Leaf!

I think anything legitimate would be $10k. Unless something changes, it would be way better to just get a different leaf when the batteries go bad. With mine at 68% of original health, it should be ok for 4 or 5 years as our around town car.

    Purchased a 2011 Nissan Leaf!

That’s definitely on the agenda. I’ll miss regular oil changes so this will be fun. 🤩

    Purchased a 2011 Nissan Leaf!

True but it’s a 14 year old EV. It’s to be expected and this is not a car you buy to be doing fast charging. By the time I walked up the street to the store, got a drink, and came back, I was on my way. I think I would have been OK with 5 minutes worth of juice. One thing is for sure, this...

    Purchased a 2011 Nissan Leaf!

I found myself a bit far from home today and didn’t think I’d make it back without charging. This was my first fast charging session, other than a quick start and stop to make sure it worked after I got the car. This comes to $1.28USD.

    Post your latest oil change

I sold my 2010 Nissan Frontier 4.0L to my SIL this weekend. This means I will probably continue to do the maintenance! 95,818km (59538 miles) OCI 8,421km (5233 miles) and 1 year, 1 month. Out: QS 5w40 Euro and Fram Orange can on 2nd OCI In: Mobil1 5w40 Euro and topped up the last bit with...

What was the first car you worked on regularly?

1965 Mercury half ton. I rebuilt the engine in 1997, as a project to learn how to do it. To show where I started, I actually drained the transmission oil instead of motor and didn’t realize it until I had it out and spilled it everywhere after turning it over on the engine stand. Kept working...

What are you working on today?

It must be hard to find employees if that only rates a suspension. I’m a DIYer but it sounds like I would do a better job. Hire me!! 🤪🤪

Viscosity Grade recommendation for Death Valley

Agreed. I recommend crunchy peanut butter in case a bit of extra grip is needed

For those who over maintain their cars, just wanted to offer another viewpoint.

I've been "guilty" of overdoing maintenance on my 93 Tercel and '05 CR-V over the years. I partly do it simply for the enjoyment - fluids and most parts are cheap. I also derive satisfaction from having high mileage vehicles. I don't have much use for the Tercel anymore and will probably give...

Did you have a REAL DAD, or a distant/absent biological donor?

I am lucky to have a wonderful dad. He has always been around and involved, highly supportive. I don’t ever recall him not being there when needed for anything, big or small. My mom is the same, as were my grandparents. My wife, on the other hand, has a dad who lives an hour from us and I...

    3 pedal Kia Soul

I have a 2005 CR-V with a manual and have had multiple unsolicited offers on it lately. Folks really like them and they’re hard to come by. At least where I am, they go for a premium over the much more common automatics.
