Walmart EV Charging Network - Finally Under Construction!

Agreed on the home charging. I have a 2011 Leaf and charge only at home and it is super convenient. I have a tough airbag problem (that's another story I'll tell later) and have had a 2018 Tesla Model 3 as a loaner for over a month. It's a nice car and I like a lot of things about it but I...

Oldest oil filter you ever used?

I worked on a farm in the late 90’s and went on an oil changing binge one week. There was an old Massey Ferguson tractor I changed the oil and filter on. They had stashes of filters up in the attic of the shop and I was told the “new” Massey- branded filter I used was bought in the early 70’s.

What are you working on today?

The master cylinder gave up in the 2005 CRV on Monday so I spent parts of yesterday and today replacing it. I also did the slave cylinder while it was open. It turned out my dad had a number of tools I could have used and thought were at my place so I had to get creative a few times. Made some...

Nice Sunday Morning read from Mike Rowe

I did a 4 year degree in history. The history bit hasn’t been much help but having a degree has opened doors. I’m in Network/Cloud administration but I think I would have enjoyed being a plumber more. The money would be decent too.

    K24 and 10k OCIs

I’m good on all of that except the vtec screen - I’ll check into it. Might also change the serpentine belt - hasn’t been done for at least 100k

    K24 and 10k OCIs

Does anyone have recommendations for general preventative maintenance items for the K24? I have a 2005 CRV with 320,000km. No issues to speak of at this time but I’d like to keep it going for the long haul.

What weight oil do you use in winter?

5w40 year round for me. It rarely gets below freezing here. The coldest I’ve ever seen it was -10c (14f). I would have no concerns running a 10w40 or 15w40.

Canadians equate Tim Horton's to the USPS motto "“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion"

I don't drink much coffee but on the donuts...yes. There are various much better, local options available where I am, none of which freeze their offerings....

Canadians equate Tim Horton's to the USPS motto "“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion"

The donuts used to be baked in store but a lot of the food has been frozen and shipped out from a central location for many years now. Quality is poor…

    Nissan Leaf Maintenance

It seems like most replace the gear reduction oil at about 100,000km. I just crossed over that and will do it soon. Most of the accounts I’ve seen say the old oil still looks good. Can’t hurt to do it early. There are lots of videos on YouTube showing how to change the coolant. I don’t...

    Fel pro gaskets

I’m a low volume buyer but the last couple of valve cover gaskets I bought were malformed to the point I couldn’t make them work.

    Install of Valvomax

I don’t see how trying to replace it without changing the oil would be cleaner. That seems guaranteed to make a mess.

    “Arctic Pipeline” bringing cold weather

It typically gets down to about -40 once a year or so. I remember as a kid in Saskatchewan in the 80’s we had to stay outside for recess unless it got down to -35!

    EV EPA Calculated Numbers

A Tesla is a different experience than a Gen1 Leaf. He is not exaggerating.

    EV EPA Calculated Numbers

I drive my daughter to school in the Leaf and then to work and back. It is ridiculously cheap to run. Range craters in cold weather and on the highway. I did my homework before buying - this information is all easily available publicly.

What are you working on today?

I completely agree. Whether it’s a living space or shop, I put in way more than the minimum required. It’s really such a small expense. Builders are looking to cut costs so I understand why they meet the minimum and no more…
