    Updated M1 FS 0w-40 - More PAO

Priced in line with Motul 5w40 Xcess Gen 2 28.95$ online, free shipping on $100 (linked from motul site). These two options + castrol 0w40 $21.95 Amazon = happy me. The more options the merrier.

    Goodbye To The Left Pedal

3 out of the 5 cars in my signature are 6mt. Wouldn't have it any other way - if I have to convince someone to get a manual or if someone has to ask themselves if they can live with manual or not, they probably shouldn't get the manual transmission due to any doubts / regrets. Reason I say that...

    Updated M1 FS 0w-40 - More PAO

Awesome research skills! Thanks overkill. Now more similar to Castrol 0w40/0w30 again. Ran m1 0w40 for so many years until my DI turbo cars (calcium levels so preferred GC / BC), wonder what their calcium levels are if any changes with the PAO increased formula - would be down to use m1 0w40 again.

    BMW N20 with Track Usage

If comparing Castrol 0w40 vs M1 0w40, I'd pick Castrol because it has much less calcium (LSPI contributor). But the N20 motor I believe had timing chain recall done so I'd go with the updated BMW LL-01 (2018) spec oil to prevent any issues with that (supposedly the new spec addresses timing...

Seeking guidance: What is the best choice in MBZ 229.3 or 229.5 oils for these particular circumstances?

MB 229.5 oils I like Castrol Edge 0w30/0w40 and M1 0w40 because of the price I can pick them up for. I also recently picked up a bunch of Motul 5w40 Xcess Gen 2 from bimmers.com (motul webpage referred site) for 28.95 for 5L jug and free shipping on orders over 99$. Hard to beat! Cheap for...

Looking for a better alternative to Castrol EDGE 5w40

I've wanted to try ESP 0w30 / 5w30 on my B48 X1 but old habits die hard and I keep using Edge Castrol 0w40 or LL01 Factory BMW fluid. Besides being lower saps, what are your thoughts and any benefit of ESP over GC BC 0w40/0w30 ?

Tried some popular Euro oils, here's my results

Ever try castrol 0w30 / 0w40 euro? Would seem like one of the most popular "euro" oils. Just curious as the euro oils I've used most last twenty years are M1 0w40 / Castrol 0w30/40 variants since they are widely available everywhere.

Oldest unopened oil in your stash?

Hoarded cases of Castrol Edge Euro 0w30 with the LL01 certs when I saw Advanced Auto Parts were blowing them out one year. I believe they are anywhere between 6-9 years old at this point.

Oh no, what happened while i was gone (castrol content...)

25$ for 5 quarts of Edge 0w40 is premium pricing? That is cheap as hell IMO. I get it for around 19-20 on Amazon Black friday / prime day sale every year and just load up.

2016 Subaru STI 25xxx miles, 3300 mile uoa Castrol edge euro 0w40 w/ Oem filter

Subaru 5w30. Yea it was a bit thin. Running 0w40 ravenol SSL with the old LL01 certs.. curious to see if it lowers flashpoint similarly. Will see and share whenever that happens.

2016 Subaru STI 25xxx miles, 3300 mile uoa Castrol edge euro 0w40 w/ Oem filter

As expected from an EJ25T motor, known oil shredders from what I've seen at least. However better than my M4 like I mentioned which sheared / fuel diluted the same GC 0w40 down to 10.27 @ 100c w/ a flashpoint of 380F in 1200 less miles than the STI used the oil for. But for the STI the 0w40...

2016 Subaru STI 25xxx miles, 3300 mile uoa Castrol edge euro 0w40 w/ Oem filter

Daily driven 7 mile each way to work, occasional long trips, multiple redlines and high revs due to the short gears and turbo lag (when warm of course). Flashpoint did a lot better here than in my Direct injection m4 with the same GC 0w40. Also running a catch can as the only mod, stock...

    2005 Infiniti G35 109533 miles - 5W30 - unknown brand

I'd run Castrol 0w30 / 0w40 euro or M1 0w40 euro. I ran all my previous VQs on those oils for their entire life. The 4th gen maxima VQ30DE saw 185,000 when I sold it, my 350z saw 80k miles (all on castrol 0w40 / m1 0w40) .

    2018 VW Golf Sportwagen 57K 5K OCI Mobil 1 0W40 - not impressed

Wonder if it's just a turbo direct injection thing but hard to say. Seems like my turbo DI M4 / M3 chews through oil too per the viscosity drops in only 2k mile UOA but my turbo DI 4 in the X1 doesn't seem to shred oil nearly as much.

    BMW Returning to Castrol

Which mass failures due to oil? I've owned a E36/E46/E60/F82/F80/F48 that ran on OEM BMW, nonetheless some cars are still low mileage but the ones I got rid of had north of 125K-150k miles without any engine related issues - the engine itself always outlasted the issues around it such as water...

10k snuck up on me today so I checked the oil

I own a 550i that is also old fashioned port-injected 4.8L v8. Was your oil literally translucent and gold still?

10k snuck up on me today so I checked the oil

I do my own oil changes on all my cars, and every time I dump the oil, it's dark brown / black. It doesn't matter whether its been 1400 miles or 6000 (my range). Always wondered how peoples oil came out light colored or like when it was new.

    German Castrol

Been using "GC" since the early 2000s and all their variations. Green / Yellow, GC / BC, 0w30 / 0w40, LL01 / non-LL01. For the money and availability, extremely hard to beat. Only tried other oils due to OEM warranty and/or curiosity.

    2016 BMW M4, Castrol Edge 0w40 LL01 2.1k miles UOA

Something worth mentioning is that the day that I actually changed the oil I just start the car let it run for 2 minutes while I get the car on jack stands, and drain the oil. Doubt that little amount of fuel dilution is causing the flash point to drop to 385 area though. I posted about that...

    2016 BMW M4, Castrol Edge 0w40 LL01 2.1k miles UOA

No not at all, O2 sensors are much farther up than the secondary cats so removing them doesn't change anything or require a software remapping. Any thoughts on why this low mile sample of GC / BC became this way after 2100 miles? Blackstone did mention that it could be because of the mixture of...
