Disc brake pad slap in the rust belt - can't be done

Okay, just out of curiosity - I just looked up Pittsburgh as an example for "rust belt". It's pretty much the same temperatures, rain, snow, moisture in the air andwhatnot as Bavaria where I live. We also see heavy use of salt on the roads during winter. But nobody would describe Bavaria as a...

Insane Electric Rate Increase $508.68/1522 kWh

In 2018 it was still halfway decent, but the new "green" government is driving the country against the wall. Today you would visit a whole different Germany.

Insane Electric Rate Increase $508.68/1522 kWh

It's complicated. First of all - Germany isn't a wind/solar country. Over 80% of all wind turbines would never come close to ROI if they wouldn't be massiv subsidized by the tax payers (guess who made those laws). There is just not enough wind. Solar is similar. Our energy cost is high...

Insane Electric Rate Increase $508.68/1522 kWh

Nah - I live in an Appartement, with no chance to put solar panels anywhere.

Insane Electric Rate Increase $508.68/1522 kWh

Actually it's way beyond insanity. A lot of folks just cant afford that - they will loose their houses and apartments. To put this in perspective - buying a house or a apartment in Germany is really expensive and difficult. Usually you need to have a ton of money before you even get a credit -...

Insane Electric Rate Increase $508.68/1522 kWh

Well here in Germany gas and oil heating - 95% of all buildings - is now illegal (because of saving the planet and all) - you have to rip it out and install an electric heat pump. At the same time my electric bill went form 120 to 460 Euros a month.

Oil Specs & Testing Approved Lubricants

Most folks outside of our BITOG bubble couldn't care less about oil, as far as it roughly within the specs of what the oil filler cap says. But engines still last easily over 200K miles these days, without any oil related damage though. As much as I like the lube talk here, from time to time we...

Anyone using Gates Thermoplastic hose clamps?

Yeah, and it looks really cool on a classic car. But don't buy that $80 tool, you can make it really cheap.

Anyone using Gates Thermoplastic hose clamps?

I switched to aviation spec clamps - you basically make them your self, just with wire and a special tool. As long as you have wire, you have any size of clamp you ever need. I keep some wire and the tool in the car, just in case..

    Mechanic says change oil

Because it's dark? Seriously? It's supposed to be dark, cause that means it is doing it's job. I would be worried, if my oil would be honey color.

    The Wheel of Destruction

Happened to me, when a wheel spacer just broke in two. Luckily nobody was hurt, but my wheel jumped over the road and into a river

    Gun oil?

Back in the days when I was a paratrooper, the German army used Ballistol, still love the smell of it, and I use it a lot for lubing stuff.

One word you can not pronounce correctly

For me it's "serendipitous" - but I'm German, so I got some leeway there.

Weather Forecasting - Do You Expect Accuracy

A friend of mine is als a retired meteorologist - he told me about experience, gut feeling and nose-in-the-wind back than, and that 7 day forecasts (with all that supercomputers) have a 50/50 chance to be right these days - pretty much the same quality as flipping a coin. The only reliable...

All food consumed in one day

Since I gained some weight over the winter, I'm on "one meal per day" since 2 weeks now. It's pretty much the same every day - half pound burger patty on a lot of salad, roasted mushrooms, a bell pepper, cheese, an onion and an egg on top. Salad dressing is apple vinegar, olive oil, MCT oil...

Does a magnetic drain plug make more sense on a scooter?

Magnets in the oil are always a good thing. I have about 15 neodymium magnets sitting in my oil pan, and they are always catch something.
