    How much weight for traction?

I’m running a 245/75/16. The stock tire was a 225/75/16. The 245’s are what it had on it when I purchased the vehicle so I stuck with those.

    How much weight for traction?

Yep, only run it in 4WD in deep snow/slush. Unfortunately, I do not have the Dana locking rear differential, which I heard is good even in 2WD.

    How much weight for traction?

Looks like I posted this same question back in 2015 (same vehicle). That would have been my first winter with it. One poster asked why the need for weight in a 4WD. Partly traction, partly to keep from fish tailing. The rear end is very light and squirrelly in snow. Truck is a regular cab, 8 ft box.

    How much weight for traction?

4WD (K1500). Firestone Transforce AT tires. Not “winter” tires but aggressive tires with good tread.

    How much weight for traction?

Getting a doozy of a snow storm today and tomorrow! I have good tires on my 1991 Chevrolet K1500. 4WD is great but really squirrelly without weight. I put nine 70 lb sand bags between the wheel wells. Is this enough weight? 630 pounds total.

    Winter tire recommendations

Just ordered a set of X-ice Snow in 225/65/17 from Wal-Mart. Will have them installed next Saturday

    Winter tire recommendations

Let me correct my previous statement; perhaps Michelin isn’t discontinuing the C-ice. It might just be Tire Rack that is discontinuing them.

    Winter tire recommendations

I will be replacing the winter tires on my 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan sometime soon. Previous set was Michelin Xi or Xi2s. I ran these for 5 seasons (2017-2021). I typically put the snow tires on in November and run them through April/May. I’ve heard that Michelin is discontinuing the X-ice...

    Blizzak WS90

I’m shopping for winter tires as well. I had read somewhere that the Blizzak WS90 only lasts a couple of seasons.

    Lucas Oil Stabilizer helping

UPDATE: The 91 Chevrolet got an oil change using QS 10w/40 and Justice Bros Oil Treatment on Aug 27th. I average about 125 miles per week. Only down about a half quart. Big improvement.

    Coolant temp sensor

The vehicle is 31 years old. So a faulty guage isn’t out of the question. The odometer quit working 6 years ago. I will move the wire around on the sensor going to the block to see what the guage does.

    Coolant temp sensor

Ok, so I replaced the one wire sensor. It still pegs hot. Either the new sensor was no good, there is a short, or the guage is bad. Correct assessment?

    Coolant temp sensor

I know that when I unhook the one wire sensor the guage goes cold. So what happens if I unhook the 2 wire sensor. Check engine light means good. No CEL means bad?

    Coolant temp sensor

1991 Chevrolet K1500.4.3 V6. Temp guage is all the way to hot. I replaced the temp sensor on the side of the block. Didn’t help. It’s possible that the guage is bad. How likely is it that the temp sensor on top of the engine near the thermostat housing is bad?

    Lucas Oil Stabilizer helping

UPDATE: Changed oil with Quaker State 10W/40 and a can of Justice Bros. Oil Treatment. Oil was down one quart since 5-24-22. Will see how this works.

    "Partial" oil change.

There was a study done by Mobil1. They ran motor oil out to 18k miles before changing it. I think that this was before the Extended oils came out for 15k & 20k oil changes; back when 10k was considered pushing the envelope. The study showed that topping off the oil by as little as a half quart...

Looking for first person story: My warranty denied because of oil used

Not related to the oil used but: I worked at a Ford dealership. A guy comes in with an older car. He had an aftermarket warranty that he had purchased with the vehicle for around $2000. He had had the warranty for a couple of years. I don’t remember the particular issue with his vehicle. We...

I strongly suggest a battery powered weed eater. I have an 18V Milwaukee. I would never go back to gas powered.

Is it time? Hitting that 75K mark.

A 4 cylinder engine has less power than a 6 cylinder. Less power means that it has to work harder to gain/maintain set speeds, clime hills, etc. Working harder means more heat which is tougher on the engine. Let’s say that you have the option to a used Chevrolet S-10. Both with 100k miles. Both...
