Winter Tires or All Weather Tires

I think I am going to go with winter tires. Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV. In the meantime I will look for an extra set of rims to mount new summer tires on this spring. I can usually get 4-5 good years of wear from the two sets rotating this way. When the winter tires are on their last season, I can...

Winter Tires or All Weather Tires

I average 20k miles per year. Maybe that will be less now that my in-laws have moved to town. Medical appointments and just the logistics of living in South Dakota dictate a lot of trips to “town” ; either one hour away or two hours away depending on where we need to go. Highway driving.

Winter Tires or All Weather Tires

I’ve owned two sets of Michelin X-Ice and one set of Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV. They were used on Dodge/Chrysler vans with good results. I only used the X-Ice Snow for one season and was able to recoup much of the cost when I traded in my Dodge van for a Honda. The Honda needs two new tires. I’m...

    Pentastar 3.6 lifter tick

It is my understanding that there is a Pentastarvand a PUG, Pentastar Upgrade, that is used in other vehicles besides the minivan. I haven’t researched this thoroughly as I have switched brands for my transportation needs.

    Pentastar 3.6 lifter tick

It is my understanding that it was poor metallurgy. But I could be wrong.

5w30 didn’t save me from the lifter tick

It’s not that bad of an issue….unless you are the one having the issue. Decided that I didn’t want to go down that road again.

5w30 didn’t save me from the lifter tick

I became aware of Honda’s VCM issue right after I purchased the vehicle. I ordered the S-VCM disabler to disable the VCM. I still get great fuel economy in spite of disabling the VCM.

5w30 didn’t save me from the lifter tick

Meant to say “not dissing Chrysler”. As a side note, I owned a 2009 Chrysler T&C after the 2005. I purchased the 2009 used. The oil consumption on it was worse than with the 2005. At 500 miles, the 2009 was down a half quart of oil like clockwork. At 1000 miles, it was down a full quart. I did...

5w30 didn’t save me from the lifter tick

I’ve driven Chrysler/Dodge vans for over 20 years. I’ve gotten used to the 1 quart of oil per thousand miles on the 3.8. As a matter of fact, it was that particular issue in my brand new 2005 Dodge GC that led me to this forum. I purchased my 2016 Dodge GC in February 2017 with about 28k miles...

5w30 didn’t save me from the lifter tick

I had a 2016. When the lifter tick first started, I was able to alleviate it for a while with Seafoam. Not sure how long it was before it started in again. I would suggest trying Seafoam. If it works, trade off/sell the vehicle. I had about 185k miles on my Dodge. I traded it in back in July for...

    More tread depth better?

I’m looking at winter tires for my van. I’ve used three different iterations of the Michelin X-Ice tires with good results . I’m currently considering the Michelin Snow SUV , the newest iteration. Another consideration is the Bridgestone DM-V2. The Tirerack ratings are almost identical on these...

    Vibration on braking

2016 Honda Odyssey. I just had the tires balanced and rotated. When braking, I get a vibration. It seems to occur at higher speeds and is more prominent on the right side. While in the Black Hills a couple of weeks ago, it was more noticeable going down hill. What might the issue be, other than...

    Oil filter boo boo/question

Yeah, my father-in-law is pretty religious about changing oil. It was only recently that he started going past 3k oci’s. And yet, he’s not very good about having the other fluids changed. In fact, they gave my son their 2012 Nissan Rogue with 104k miles. The transmission is out of it . It was...

    Oil filter boo boo/question

My in-laws wanted my son to change the oil on their 2018 Ford Edge SEL AWD, 2.7. He is a neophyte and I helped him with it. He and the in-laws picked up the oil and filter. We drained the oil and after removing the filter, I noticed it was probably the wrong one. It was much shorter. The filter...

    Let's talk about Rum

My family likes Blue Chair. Another good liqueur that is marketed as an Irish whiskey is Shanky’s Whip. It reminds me somewhat of a rum. A dark liqueur with caramel and vanilla flavors.

2016 Hyundai Santa Fe timing chain question

My daughter bought a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe in December. It has engine rattle on cold start. My read research leads my to believe it is the hydraulic timing chain tensioner. The Chevrolet dealership where I purchased it says it the timing chain and everything needs to be replaced. Quoted me...

Anyone still using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum?

Is anyone still using Pnz Ultra Platinum? I have used Pnz Platinum religiously in the past but I one cold flow test, Pnz semi synthetic actually flowed better than the Platinum. I just purchased a 2016 Honda Odyssey with 82k miles. I’m thinking I will use Mobil1 Full Synthetic or Pnz Ultra...

    Honda Odyssey

Just purchased a 2016 Honda Odyssey with 82k one-owner miles after years of driving a Dodge/Chrysler vans. My last van was a 2016 Grand Caravan purchased in February 2017 with 28k miles. It had 181k miles and had the dreaded Pentastar lifter tick. I knew that my next van would be something with...
