    Car insurance coverage question

Call each and ask about glass breakage waivers. I recall having them with both companies you're considering. Basically had zero-deductible for repairs (quarter-size or smaller) and $100.00 deductible for replacement. This was separate from my $1,000 deductible on comp and collision. Unlike...

    Radiator flush product

Like Kira and others have said, first assess the cooling system's condition before selecting a potentially unnecessary product. Does the coolant appear oily, greasy, or just plain filthy? How does the inside of the radiator tank look? Any calcium, lime, or similar buildup on the ends of the...

    GOOLOO AP150 Cordless Tire Inflator - <$30

Yeah, I guess. I keep forgetting we're now in an Amazon- and Wal-Mart-centric world of cheap Chinese stuff with silly names. Perhaps not much longer...

    GOOLOO AP150 Cordless Tire Inflator - <$30

"Gooloo?" Yeah, I'll get right on that. If you need a cheap cordless tire inflating device, try a 10-dollar bicycle pump. Better for your arms, your wallet, and won't conk out after two uses.

    2004 Buick what to use

This is 100% something you can DIY and save the 100 bucks. Keep in mind that unless the mechanic removes the block drain plugs (the 3800's drains are relatively easy to pull), there will be a quart or two of water left inside the engine block. You should account for this when refilling so as...

Ford is offering employee pricing to all U.S. customers on most 2024 and 2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles

I don't know the specifics of Ford's employee plan, but when I was selling Chrysler products in the early-to-mid 1990s their "Green Sheet" program was phenomenal. It was basically invoice price less holdback less advertising fees with any and all rebates/dealer cash included in the deal. It...

Why is e85 still for sale everywhere?

I admittedly don't know how far and wide flex-fuel vehicles spread, but almost every fifth-gen Grand Caravan and Town & Country from 2013-onwards was E85 compatible. That's an awful lot of minivans. I'm sure there are many more out there. I used E85 a lot in my Town & Country when it made...

Do dealers/shops actually still cut rotors?

Science has done that for us. Read the first article I linked. The temps simply can't get there...unless you're driving a Formula 1 car. I guess I could concede a super-cheap Chinese rotor with a crummy and porous casting could conceivably fail, but it's still not very likely.

    2004 Buick what to use

While the original coolant was indeed DexCool, there are modern silicate-free alternatives if you're not comfortable with the orange stuff. One of my favorites is the Prestone All-Vehicle universal, which is $12.13 a gallon at Wal-Mart. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but pre-mix is for...

Do dealers/shops actually still cut rotors?

Definitely not a Lodge brand skillet. My wife's 20-year-old Lodge is still straight as a string. I see it every time she swings it at me.

Do dealers/shops actually still cut rotors?

A couple of variables may be at play here. For example, it could be the result of uneven mounting due to crud/rust on the face of the hub or inside the rotor. Could also be a few overly-tight lugnuts. The most common reason is said to be uneven brake pad material deposits across the face of...

Do dealers/shops actually still cut rotors?

Total myth. Rotor sizes/dimensions are engineered for specific vehicles, their mass, and specific brake systems. I have several vehicles with OE rotors on them after many years and miles. They are no thinner than required. Ever see or handle the front rotors on a newer-gen Chrysler minivan...

    T-33 trainer

What's also amazing about the T-33 is the fact it remained in service with several Air National Guard units until the mid-1980s, and with other nations' air forces until the early 2000s. Lockheed's design for the F-80/T-33 was a marvel of ruggedness and simplicity. If you've never seen one...

Auto Insurance for an old car and young driver

I don't disagree with pointing kids toward safe cars; however, I'm always trying to wrap my head around parents buying their kids expensive cars in the name of safety. To cover that base, we sent all three of our kids to a stringent defensive driving course, which included inclement weather...

    Auto ins just doubled!

Nope, just a regular ol' car on my Allstate policy. Liability only with no limitations. That said, your points are very rational and well-reasoned. Especially the idea of debtors' jail and public service for the uninsured.

Would you let someone borrow your car for $40

"Friendships....relationships....communities all involve sharing of duties...responsibilities...benefits." Bernie...is that you? I thought you lived in Vermont. Could be Karl Marx, but he's dead... "What's in it for me" is merely one part of fairness selfishness. Fixed it for you. And if...

Would you let someone borrow your car for $40

How close of a friend is he? Helping one another goes hand-in-hand with friendship. Rationalize your decision all you like, but true friends are always there to help. On the other hand, if this person is a mere acquaintance your obligation is lessened. If this is your measuring stick, it's...

Mobil Delvac 1300 Super $12.47/gal at Walmart

Weird...when I first saw it this morning it was (allegedly) discounted, but I didn't take a screen snip. I linked from another site that showed this: Not bad if this is now an everyday price, though.
