    Debit Card hacked

My Visa Debit Card (check card) from Navy Federal has been fraudulently used about five times over the last 25 years. I've never once been charged a cent for these transactions; NFCU has always nullified the suspect charges and reissued a new card within 48 hours.

Hey Texas! New bridge in Corpus is finally open

Agree the report was pretty lame. Despite having about 400K people in the area, Corpus is in many ways a small town with cheesy news coverage and rookie reporters. There's a certain charm to that, I suppose, although we could probably do without televised reports on new Whataburger and DQ...

Hey Texas! New bridge in Corpus is finally open

To my fellow Texans, glad to report the new Harbor Bridge is finally open after almost a decade. Gotta say the thing is an absolute monster. Primary purpose for construction was to finally allow those really large container ships to enter the harbor. Will be interesting to see how this will...

    AMC Pacer

Used to have an orange 1976 model. Most interesting feature to me is the slightly longer passenger side door.

Minivans eat tires…anyone put XL rated tires on?

Is this is Sienna concern in lieu of a minivan concern? I've had a Chrysler minivan variant in the garage since 1995 and have never, ever experienced shortened tire life. I buy the highest rated UTQG tire for the money and rotate every oil change (5-6K miles). Recently replaced a set of CS5...

Hey Hemi guys - ignition coils

Not going to do better than the OE coils. Why the desire to replace? They are not maintenance items and tend to last and last. If you find yourself with a bad coil, replace that one. Mopar 68238603AA or its NGK equivalent (48716) would be my choices.

What makes you like where you live?

While there are many reasons to live in South Texas (weather, beaches, overall affordability, etc.), it's the people that make Corpus Christi a real gem. Despite a population north of 300K, our city has a small town feel where neighbors actually know each other and where everyone feels welcome...

    Oilpan Drainplug Removal Tool

Fifty bucks for a drain plug? Good grief! What's with this almost unhealthy aversion to getting a little oil on yourself? It wipes off, you know. So many grandfathers are shaking their heads or turning over in their graves right now.

2013 Dodge Grand Caravan - Replacement Struts

To be precise, there are 11 different spring combinations for most Gen V vans. And most quick struts are indeed a compromise for the sake of convenience. Not only can the mounts be suspect, but also the springs, cushions, and quality of assembly...as virtually all of the offerings are from...

Rotting Out a Tree Stump - What Has Worked For You?

A few years ago I had this nasty looking tree about 20 feet tall with an 8-inch trunk diameter. Don't know what type of tree it was, but it dropped about a million little brown spiky balls the locals (St Louis area) called "popcorn balls." I cut it down and left about 2 inches of stump above...

Financial graphic comparison of buying a new or used car

I always wonder how and when the arbitrary $10K figure entered into the conversation and why it's often cited as indisputable fact. For those willing to do their homework, there are myriad solid cars available for far less. The above statements are simply untrue...especially if you know how...

Flew on a brand new American 787-900

Flew from Philly (to DFW) on an AA 787-9 (not -900, BTW) a few weeks ago. Used miles to upgrade into premium economy for extra legroom. Was our first 787 ride; very impressed with the smoothness. And watching the flex on those CFRP wings is incredible!

Who's never traveled outside of the United States?

Over the course of my Air Force career I've been fortunate enough to have visited over 30 countries. While most were in an official capacity, I've done my share of tourism as well. Fully agree most people should go abroad if willing and able, if for no other reason than to cement the fact we...

    Oilpan Drainplug Removal Tool

Great tool for any DIY ladies out there. Will definitely keep those nails clean. Perhaps they'll offer a full-body HAZMAT style suit to stay clean while changing those oil filters. A person could get splashed and suffer a very nasty stain on their North Face working-on-the-car shirt.

Korean Parents try Chicago Hot dogs and Italian Beef for the First Time

Like every chain that proliferates far beyond their home turf these days, Portillo's is up on price and down on quality (and charm). Visiting Portillo's in the Houston suburbs (and soon to be north of San Antonio) isn't the same as the old two-story experience on Ontario St. on Chicago's north...

Kitchen cabinet door clear coat repair?

Like Boomer said, thoroughly sand and re-varnish. You could alternatively use a polyurethane coating, but good ol' varnish is what you probably want. Leave the clear coat in the garage where it belongs.

    737 for trans Atlantic Flights

For PAX flights they use a palletized latrine. Not the greatest, but actually has a reading light if you need to have a seat.

Updated observations on single family home market in South and Southwest USA

You make very interesting observations. How much of the slowdown can be attributed to markets seeking equilibrium...especially in comparison to the asinine pricing that was omnipresent a few years ago? Add to that a definite slowdown in writing mortgages for high-risk roaches... We bought our...

    2021 Chrysler 300s

Agree...but only for oil changes. Brakes, tire rotations, etc. require jackstands or a lift.
