Good tech support from Nulon, a Fuches company Stage 3.5 BMW B48

Yeah, I would encourage anyone to contact their Tech. When you do a UOA through them they also call you to go through the results. I couldn't find anything anywhere wrt oil in worked over B series engines.

Ravenol RSS 10W-60 - Worth it?

Just wondering to OP, have you tried UOA? This is ALS, the biggest environmental lab in Australia: http://www.e-monitor.com.au/ I'm sensing also, you have gone off the Penrite products. That's OK I did too. If your happier with the Ravenol and the Engine seems to like it keep using it. Try...

Good tech support from Nulon, a Fuches company Stage 3.5 BMW B48

So I am about to assemble and tune the Stage 3.5 build of my BMW B48. Stage 3.5 is the generic term for following mods: Stock long block Upgraded Turbo Downpipe Intake/charge pipe Flex Fuel ethanol. The race tune will be targeting about 400 wheel hp. About double stock. Yesterday (Saturday) I...

    10 TENTHS PREMIUM 10W-60 (100% PAO & ESTER)

Perfect. It will likely be more shear stable then Edge. You could also try some HPR15 to save some $$.

    Ferrari F430 oil

Literally the Ferrari specialists oil is PP Euro 5W40 which is cheap and available everywhere. I love a good oil debate as much as the next BITOG'er, but IMHO this is one time when it's not required.

Ravenol RSS 10W-60 - Worth it?

The Penrite 10W60 doesn't state no VII are used unlike the 10 tenths line which advertise no VII. Maybe both the Penrite an Ravenol use VII, I know the Castrol does as its know to quickly shear down to a 50. This infers its difficult or impractical to make a 10W60 without VII. If no VII is...

    Choosing correct viscosity for BMW M5 w/ S63TU 4.4L V8

Getting back to rod bearings, personally I would try Mobile 1 5W50: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/for-personal-vehicles/our-products/products/mobil-1-fs-x2-5w-50 It looks like a PAO base oil as well and not amazingly thicker than a 40 like the 10W60 but will increase bearing protection...

    Choosing correct viscosity for BMW M5 w/ S63TU 4.4L V8

If the Ravenoll is PAO base it should be amazing in 5w40 for a stock engine. 0W40 Castrol Edge is also PAO apparently and runs well. Yeah IDK about 10W60 in a S63. I'll tell you a story from today. I am in the final stages of the Stage 3.5 build of the B48 in my 530i. Big Turbo, flex fuel E50...

Ravenol RSS 10W-60 - Worth it?

I think possibly the Penrite used to be group 3 and has recently been reformulated as PAO/Ester. The penrite is chock full of anti-wear, zinc, borate ester. Tons of the stuff. That and being PAO Ester should be almighty strong. Should keep those bearings off the crank. I cannot imagine the...

Ravenol RSS 10W-60 - Worth it?

So I don't know if it was mentioned but I was lurking on the Penrite website the other day and I saw they do a 10tenths 10W60: https://penriteoil.com.au/products/10-tenths-premium-10w-60-100-pao-ester 100%PAO/Ester. Only annoyance is they only do a 5L and no 6L or 1L. Probably about equal to the...

    Choosing correct viscosity for BMW M5 w/ S63TU 4.4L V8

LSJr recently did a UTube video on PAO base stocks. Basically PAO oil runs hotter because it's much better at cooling the engine. Which is good. Is the Ravenol PAO base? Castrol Edge 0W40 or Sell Helix Ultra 5W40 are my go to. Castrol Edge Supercar 10W60 is the BMW M oil. There are Mobil 1 in...

Why not the Impala: https://www.natewade.com/inventory/used-2008-chevrolet-impala-ls-fwd-4dr-car-2g1wb58k381300843/ But anyway Mazda 3 or 6 is my vote. Subaru if you get a good FB and 4eat 5eat or stick. Consider getting a stick so they learn, too many 20 somethings only have auto licences now...

CK-4 E9 substitute LL 04 in BMW N47 SEQ Oz

Well it's been a while. I had to get a scheduled service in October last year which included whatever unidentified bulk oil was on hand. I was going to change at 5,000 km but at 4550 km it already sounded like it was starting to go away. I used the fluid extractor and pulled out 5L and replaced...

Euro HPL 5W30 or 5W40 for an LCI G30?

Sorry late reply, after going down the BMW oil SPEC rabbit hole in detail last year, I will add, I wouldn't use the following: Long Life 04 Long Life 01 FE Long Life 17 FE IMHO FE were developed for the US market fuel economy requirements and are a step backwards wrt to wear and engine...

    Discount oil in Oz.

The Mothers and Meg's car wash price was really good. About $25 for the 2 L jug. I got some Oakwood leather cleaner for a good price. There's some gems in there. Worth slotting into the routine as I'm there most frequently.

LSJr- Do “Film Strength” Testers Tell The TRUTH?

Regular engines don't have needle roller bearings and 500 lb/inch springs.

LSJr- Do “Film Strength” Testers Tell The TRUTH?

I wasn't talking about the cam contact. Needle bearings, push rod cups, valve stem tips. Especially with high spring pressures and solid lifters. Lash means the drive from the cam is discontinuous as well, constantly starting and stopping. Bearing failure is a known problem in these situations...
