Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Don't change anything then except do a UOA to double check wear. And enjoy the feeling of self satisfaction you were on track all along.

Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Is there anything which is making you think you need to change your current approach? Is the engine burning oil? How much? Is oil pressure lower? Because as the others have mentioned what you have been doing is perfect. Only reason to change is to respond to some change in how the engine is...

Lake Speed Jr video - Ignore Factory oil specifications!

While I dont need a 0W, heck where I live 25W is fine, the good thing about a 0W40, in particular a Euro spec such as A3B4 A40 etc. Is that it must be made using very high quality ingredients. Great base oils, add package, testing etc.

Lake Speed Jr video - Ignore Factory oil specifications!

Another exciting and interesting Tribology video by LSJr. Edit added to comply with site copywrite and media rules: I like his closing statement about how a 0W20 in different geographic and climatic conditions will effectively be different viscosities over a very broad range. I.E. in Alaska in...

Ravenol RSS 10W-60 - Worth it?

Well true 0.6% is probably within measurement precision.

    Ferrari F430 oil

To clarify the winter rating was not part of my question. My question refers @100oC. I disagree. Its an empirical evidence question. Does the empirical performance based evidence support an improvement of valvetrain wear using higher viscosity at 100oC? All other things being equal of course.

    Ferrari F430 oil

Has the GT3 community found any general consensus advantage with respect to valvetrain longevity by using say 5w50 vs 0W40?

I imagine this particular vehicle manufacturer are somewhat discerning which products they endorse:

Just saw a Goodyear commercial titled "Forever the greatest name in tires"

I have a set with 20,000 km. They are not the absolute fastest tyres available but wear better, probably get at least 40.000 km, probably more like 50,000. They are a great Street UHP. Do everything really well. Fantastic in wet inc ex TC downpours on the Freeway at 110 km.h. They are also good...

    Choosing correct viscosity for BMW M5 w/ S63TU 4.4L V8

I think they dropped the 'Supercar' branding, reportedly PAO based. https://www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/home/products/our-brands/automotive/castrol-edge-oils/castrol-edge.html#tab_0w-40-a3-b4 Barely a 40 though.

So, I was rewatching the LSJr Viscocity breakdown vid. At 13:40 he has a chart showing viscosity breakdown of some commercial oils. Fascinating. Screenshot attached. These results suggest to me a none or at least very low VII 15W50 may be an option worth considering. This is something he...

    Choosing correct viscosity for BMW M5 w/ S63TU 4.4L V8

+1 This should be primary concern for such an expensive engine.

Even the 15w50 300V would be a little stouter. Motul have the 10W60 available here in Oz which may be useful for the OP: https://www.motul.com/en-AU/products/17950?product=MOTUL+8100+X-POWER+10W-60

I was thinking along these lines, since the Castrol quickly shears down to a 50, why not start with a no VII 50?
